DARREN’S WIN-LOSS RECORDS COLUMN: WEEK 19 & 20

Welcome to Week 19 & 20 of 2013. Due to a scheduling conflict, last week’s column was not posted, so this week is a combined column featuring both last week & this week. Last week saw the final episode of WWE Saturday Morning Slam, while this week WWE gave us their May Pay-Per-View Extreme Rules. Almost every match was a Gimmick Match, increasing the Gimmick Match count. Now, to this week’s news & notes.

On the 5/6 Raw, we had our 1st May Only Re-Match, as Randy Orton wrestled Damien Sandow, in a re-match from Smackdown. Raw saw the 1st Count Out since The Great Khali VS Mark Henry from Main Event on April 24, in the match between R-Truth & Fandango, giving Fandango his 1st loss in WWE. Raw also saw the 6th match in 3 months between Alberto Del Rio & Dolph Ziggler. They last wrestled each other when Ziggler won the World Title on Raw on April 8. The match ended by Disqualification, giving us the 3rd straight WWE show to have a Disqualification and 2nd straight Raw to have a Disqualification. This was the 1st Raw since April 8 to have both a Count Out & a Disqualification on it. Raw also saw The Usos & Kofi Kingston VS The Shield in the 1st 6-Man Tag since last week’s Main Event on Raw. This was The Usos’ 1st match on Raw since March 25 when they lost to Mark Henry in a Handicap Match. Zack Ryder wrestled Antonio Cesaro in Cesaro’s 1st win on WWE TV since defeating Zack Ryder on Superstars on March 21. He won on NXT against Adrian Neville on April 24, and defeated Alberto Del Rio by Count Out on Raw on March 25, but he last won by pinfall on Smackdown on April 1 against The Miz in a 2 Out of 3 Falls Match. Raw also saw Kaitlyn & The Funkadactyls VS AJ Lee & The Bella Twins, giving us our 2nd 6-Person Tag Team Match of the show, which was the 1st time since February 18 that 2 6-Man Tag Team Matches occurred on 1 show.

On the 5/8 Main Event, we had our 550th Match of 2013, as we saw Randy Orton VS Antonio Cesaro in their 6th match against each other this year. This was the 1st time they have wrestled each other since February. This was Cesaro’s 2nd consecutive week on Main Event and Orton’s 1st match on the show since defeating Wade Barrett on March 6. The other match on Main Event was a 6-Man Tag Team Match with Justin Gabriel & The Usos VS 3MB. This was also Gabriel’s & Heath Slater’s 2nd straight week on Main Event, Jinder Mahal & Drew McIntyre’s 1st match since the Intercontinental Championship #1 Contender’s Battle Royal on April 17 & The Usos’ 1st match on the show since their loss to Mark Henry on April 24. This was the 2nd straight WWE show to have a 6-Man Tag Team Match.

On the 5/8 NXT, we saw the debut of Baron Corbin in his match against Damien Sandow. This was Sandow’s 1st match on NXT since March 27 when he lost to Randy Orton. NXT also saw Paige’s 2nd consecutive week on the show, as she faced Bayley. The next match on NXT saw the debut of Briley Pierce as he faced Sakamoto in his 1st match since January 30. Their match was a No Contest due to the attack by Conor O’Brian. This was the 1st No Contest since last Friday’s Smackdown and NXT’s 1st No Contest since the NXT Championship Match between Big E. Langston and Conor O’Brian on February 20. Kassius Ohno wrestled Camacho in Camacho’s 1st match since January 16. The final match on NXT saw the NXT Tag Team Championships on the line, in the 1st title defense since Oliver Grey & Adrian Neville defeated The Wyatt Family in the finals of the NXT Tag Team Championship Tournament. This brought the title match count to 57 overall and 35 for WWE. The NXT Tag Team Title changed hands for the 2nd time in 2013, bringing the title change count to 16 overall & 11 for WWE. This was also the 2nd straight week that Bo Dallas, Adrian Neville, Luke Harper, & Erick Rowan competed on NXT.

On the 5/9 Impact, for the 2nd week in a row, we had a Knockout’s Tag Team Match. We also saw Magnus VS D.O.C. in D.O.C.’s 1st singles match in 2013. He has only competed in tag team matches. Impact gave us TNA’s 1st No Contest in a tag team match between Austin Aries & Bobby Roode and Bad Influence, as Special Guest Referee James Storm walked out of the match. This was TNA’s 1st No Contest since Sting wrestled Austin Aries to a No Contest on March 14. Also, this was the 1st time that TNA has had a Special Guest Referee since ODB was the referee for a Knockout’s Match on April 25. Impact also saw the 2013 debut of Abyss, who hasn’t competed since a Monster’s Ball Match against Bully Ray at TNA Genesis on January 8, 2012. Abyss was part of a 6-Man Tag Team Match with Kurt Angle & Sting against The Aces & Eights’ Mr. Anderson, Devon, & Bully Ray. The match started as a 3-on-2 Handicap Match, but since Abyss came out at the end and pinned Devon to win the match, it was officially a 6-Man Tag Team Match. This was TNA’s 1st 6-Man Tag Team Match since Kurt Angle, James Storm, & Eric Young VS Garett Bischoff, Wes Brisco, & D.O.C. on March 28.

On the 5/9 Superstars, we saw the return of Ted DiBiase, who hasn’t wrestled since being part of a Battle Royal on the December 26th episode of Main Event. He wrestled Michael McGillicutty in McGillicutty’s 1st match on the show since April 25. The other match saw Justin Gabriel VS Cody Rhodes, in Cody’s 1st match on Superstars since March 7 & Gabriel’s 1st match on the show since February 14. This was also Cody’s 1st singles win since he defeated Zack Ryder on Main Event on March 6, though he & Damien Sandow defeated Tons of Funk on Raw on March 25. This was the 1st time since April 11 that Superstars did not have a Diva’s Match.

On the 5/10 Smackdown, we saw Kofi Kingston VS Cody Rhodes. Cody Rhodes became the 1st person since Darren Young on April 10 & 11 to wrestle in the final match of Superstars and then the opening match of Smackdown the next night. Our next match was supposed to be Jack Swagger VS Big E. Langston, but Alberto Del Rio threw a ladder in the ring before the bell rang and the referee left the ring as everyone brawled. This will not be listed as a No Contest since the bell never rang, therefore Swagger & Langston do not receive a draw in the standings. We then saw Daniel Bryan VS Dean Ambrose end in a Disqualification, when Kofi Kingston interfered and attacked Ambrose. Even though Kane & The Shield were brawling outside the ring, the referee did not ring the bell until Kingston attacked Ambrose, therefore Ambrose won by Disqualification. The final match on Smackdown saw Chris Jericho VS Ryback, which also ended by Disqualification, giving us 2 Disqualifications on Smackdown, which was the 1st time that has happened in 2013. This was the 1st Disqualification since Alberto Del Rio VS Dolph Ziggler on Raw this week. This was the 2nd consecutive week that Smackdown has not had a Diva’s Match.

On the 5/11 Saturday Morning Slam, we had the season finale. As mentioned above, this week’s show was the last episode until the fall. As always, Saturday Morning Slam had 2 matches. In the 1st match, we saw Santino Marella VS Jinder Mahal. This was Marella’s 2013 Saturday Morning Slam debut and Mahal’s 1st match on the show since April 13. It was also Marella’s 1st singles win in 2013. His other win was part of a 6-Man Tag Team Match with R-Truth & Zack Ryder against 3MB on Raw on April 8. This was Mahal’s 1st singles match since February 1. The 2nd match on the show saw Randy Orton & Sheamus team up on Saturday Morning Slam for the 1st time against The Prime Time Players. This was Orton’s 1st appearance on the show since January 12, Sheamus’ 1st match on the show since February 16, and The Prime Time Players’ 2nd straight week on the show. Randy Orton became the 1st person since The Usos to wrestle on Main Event & Saturday Morning Slam in the same week. They did it on April 24.

On the 5/13 Raw, we saw Tons of Funk VS The Prime Time Players in The Prime Time Players’ 1st win since they defeated Tons of Funk on Saturday Morning Slam on March 30. Raw also saw Randy Orton VS Antonio Cesaro in a May-only Re-Match from Main Event on May 8. Raw saw the 2nd week in a row that we had a 6-Man Tag Team Match. The 6-Man Tag Team Elimination Match between John Cena &Team Hell No and The Shield was also a re-match from Raw on April 29. The Elimination Match was the 76th Gimmick Match of the year and 45th for WWE, as well as the 1st Elimination Match for WWE since the January 25th Smackdown between Alberto Del Rio & Team Hell No and The Big Show & Team Rhodes Scholars. The match ended by Disqualification is the 1st Disqualification for WWE since last Friday’s Smackdown between Daniel Bryan & Dean Ambrose. Even though Kane & Daniel Bryan were both eliminated from the match, since John Cena won, they will receive a win here. Raw also gave us a Count Out in the match between Jack Swagger & Big E. Langston, marking the 2nd week in a row that Raw has had both a Disqualification and Count Out. The final match on Raw saw Natalya VS AJ Lee. This was Natalya’s 1st singles match on Raw in 2013 and the 1st time since April 22 that a Diva’s Match was the final match on Raw. That match was the Diva’s Championship #1 Contender’s Battle Royal.

On the 5/15 Main Event, we saw our 2nd Disqualification of the week in the match between Kane & Seth Rollins. This was Seth Rollins’ 1st singles match on WWE TV since his match against The Big Show on Raw on March 11, though he did wrestle Corey Graves on NXT on April 17. This was Kane’s 1st match on Main Event since March 27 and Rollins’ 1st match on Main Event since April 10. This was also the last time that Main Event had 3 matches. Main Event also saw the return of Sin Cara, who hasn’t competed since March 11 when he lost to Jack Swagger on Raw. His match here against Wade Barrett was his 2013 Main Event debut and Barret’s 1st match on the show since April 17. The final match of Main Event saw Justin Gabriel VS Cody Rhodes. This was a re-match from last week’s Superstars on May 9, making it the 1st time since Justin Gabriel VS Titus O’Neil on February 14 & 20 that a match took place on Superstars and then Main Event the following week. This was the 3rd week in a row that Justin Gabriel has wrestled on Main Event and Cody’s 1st match on the show since March 6.

On the 5/15 NXT, we saw Summer Rae VS Natalya in Natalya’s 1st match on NXT since March 27. This was the 1st time since Kaitlyn on the aforementioned March 27th episode of NXT that someone from the main event of Raw wrestled in the opening match of NXT in the same week. NXT saw the debut of Danny Burch, as he wrestled Bray Wyatt. NXT saw a Handicap Match between Briley Pierce & Sakamoto and Conor O’Brian, bringing the Gimmick Match count to 77 overall and 46 for WWE. This was the 1st Handicap Match for WWE since Randy Orton & Sheamus VS The Big Show on Raw on April 15. This was O’Brian’s 1st match on NXT since April 3 when he lost to Big E. Langston. Speaking of Langston, he defended the NXT Championship against Damien Sandow in the 58th Title Match of the year and 36th for WWE. The last time the NXT Title was on the line was April 24 when Langston defeated Brad Maddox.

On the 5/16 Impact, we saw Chavo Guerrero VS Bobby Roode end in a Disqualification. This was TNA’s 1st Disqualification since March 28 when Mr. Anderson defeated Jeff Hardy. Impact saw the return of Jay Bradley, as he faced Christian York in a Semi-Final Match of the Bound For Glory Series Qualifying Match. This was Bradley’s 1st match since winning the Gut Check Challenge on January 10. This was also York’s 1st match on Impact since January 24, though he did wrestle on Pay-Per-View at Lockdown and at both One Night Only Pay-Per-Views. Impact saw a 3-Way Match for the X-Division Championship, bringing the Gimmick Match count to 78 overall and 32 for TNA and the Title Match count to 59 overall and 23 for TNA. This was the 1st 3-Way since Chris Sabin VS Sonjay Dutt VS Zema Ion on May 2 and the 1st X-Division Title Match since Kenny King VS Zema Ion VS Petey Williams on April 18.

On Superstars, we saw Sin Cara VS Michael McGillicutty and Alex Riley VS Cody Rhodes. Cara & Rhodes both competed on Main Event and Superstars this week, making it the 2nd week in a row that has happened. Last week, Justin Gabriel competed on both shows. This was Cara’s 1st match on Superstars in 2013. This was Rhodes’ 2nd week in a row that he wrestled on Superstars, as well as Michael McGillcutty’s 2nd consecutive week on the show. This was Alex Riley’s 1st match since being a participant of the Intercontinental Title #1 Contender’s Battle Royal on Main Event on April 17

On the 5/17 Smackdown, we saw the tag team debut of The Shield’s Roman Reigns & Seth Rollins as they faced The Usos. They have only competed together in 6-Man Tag Team Matches. Smackdown saw the same week re-match between Tons of Funk & The Prime Time Players, as they faced off on Raw, in the same position, as the 2nd match on the show. This was the 1st time since March 15 that Smackdown had 2 tag team matches back-to-back. Smackdown also gave us an April-May Re-Match, as we saw Chris Jericho VS Antonio Cesaro for the 2nd time. They previously wrestled on Raw on April 1. We saw Kaitlyn VS Aksana in the 1st Diva’s Match on Smackdown since April 26, which also featured Aksana, as she wrestled Layla. Smackdown ended with the 2nd 6-Man Tag Team Match of the week, as Alberto Del Rio, Randy Orton, & Sheamus wrestled The Big Show, Mark Henry, & Jack Swagger. This was the 1st time since April 19 that Smackdown did not have a Disqualification on it.

On the 5/19 WWE Extreme Rules, we had 6 Gimmick Matches added to the count, bringing the total to 84 overall and 52 for WWE. This was the 2013 debut for the I Quit Match, Strap Match, & Tag Team Tornado Match. This was the 1st Extreme Rules Match since the No Disqualification Match between Jack Swagger & Alberto Del Rio on Smackdown on April 26. This was the 1st Steel Cage Match for WWE since Raw on January 14 between John Cena & Dolph Ziggler. This was the 1st Last Man Standing Match since the Royal Rumble on January 27 between Alberto Del Rio & The Big Show. The 3 Title Matches brought the Title Match count to 62 overall and 39 for WWE. This was the 1st US Title Match since Main Event on May 1 when Kofi Kingston wrestled Antonio Cesaro, the 1st WWE Tag Team Title Match since Team Hell No VS Dolph Ziggler & Big E. Langston, & the 1st WWE Championship Match since John Cena VS The Rock, which both occurred at WrestleMania 29 on April 7. There were 2 title changes on the show, bringing the Title Change Count to 18 overall and 13 for WWE. The last time the United States Championship changed hands was on Raw on April 15 when Kofi Kingston defeated Antonio Cesaro. The WWE Tag Team Title changed hands for the 1st time in 2013. Team Hell No won the titles 245 days ago defeating Kofi Kingston & R-Truth at Night of Champions on September 16, 2012. Extreme Rules gave us 3 re-matches. This was the 4th time that Alberto Del Rio wrestled Jack Swagger, as they previously wrestled at WrestleMania 29 on April 7, as well as Smackdown on April 19 & 26. WrestleMania was also the last time that Chris Jericho VS Fandango and Triple H VS Brock Lesnar both took place. This was also Triple H & Lesnar’s 1st match since WrestleMania 29. The WWE Title Last Man Standing Match between John Cena & Ryback ended in a No Contest. This was WWE’s 1st No Contest since NXT on May 8 between Briley Pierce & Sakamoto, 1st for WWE proper since Alberto Del Rio & Ricardo Rodriguez VS Jack Swagger & Zeb Colter on Smackdown on May 3, and the 1st No Contest on WWE Pay-Per-View since John Cena VS CM Punk ended in a Double Pin Draw at Night of Champions on September 16, 2012.  This was the 2nd straight Pay-Per-View to not have a Diva’s Match on it. This was the 1st time since No Way Out in February of 2007 that the World Title was not defended, due to Champion Dolph Ziggler’s concussion. On that show in 2007, the main event was then-WWE Champion John Cena & Shawn Michaels VS then-World Champion Batista & The Undertaker in a Raw VS Smackdown Challenge Tag Team Match. This was the 2nd year in a row that Extreme Rules ended with a Brock Lesnar match, instead of a WWE Title Match.

Now without further ado, here are the Win-Loss Records for this week, followed by the results of the week that was. Thanks again to Mike for posting it and all of you for reading it. Please send all feedback and comments to my Twitter Account (@hbkid718).
