CHIKARA NORTH CAROLINA RETURN PREVIEW

By Joshua Higham on 2013-05-02 12:09:55

Chikara presents “Battle Not with Monsters” Friday May 3, 2013 at the New MidAtlantic Sportatorium in Gibsonville, NC. Belltime is 7:30 pm.

Chikara returns to North Carolina and the home of CWF Mid Atlantic. Two title matches are on tap for the first leg of Chikara’s annual southern adventure.

Chikara Grand Championship:
Eddie Kingston vs. Green Ant

Green Ant was supposed to get his title shot in Florida, but an injury to Eddie Kingston caused the postponement of that match. After that event in March, Director of Fun Wink Vavasseur mandated that the Grand Championship would be defended at every Chikara event going forward. Green Ant get his chance now in North Carolina, having made Kingston tap out in Reading in February. This will be Kingston’s eleventh defense. Whoever wins this match will face Mr. Touchdown Mark Angelosetti the following night in Georgia.

Young Lions Cup:
"Mr. Touchdown" Mark Angelosetti vs. Chiva Kid

The Chiva Kid, a mainstay with CWF Mid Atlantic, impressed many wrestling fans at National Pro Wrestling Day in February. He must have impressed Wink Vavasseur as well, as he granted Chiva Kid a shot at Mr. Touchdown’s Young Lions Cup. Mr. Touchdown’s regular tag team partner, Dasher Hatfield, was injured at the Wrestlecon event, The Shoulder of Pallas, leaving Mr. Touchdown to focus on singles competition while Hatfield recovers. This will be Mr. Touchdown’s fifth defense. Mr. Touchdown challenges for the Grand Championship the following night, so his focus needs to be sharp. Overlooking Chiva Kid would be a big mistake.

The Spectral Envoy (Ultramantis Black, Hallowicked, and Frightmare) vs. FIST (Icarus, Chuck Taylor, and Johnny Gargano)

A rematch of the semifinals of last year’s King of Trios. There have been some tears in the fabric of FIST recently, with Icarus seemingly accepting Sugar Dunkerton as his tag team partner. Taylor and Gargano have constantly shown their disapproval of Sugar’s placement in FIST. Now, there’s no Sugar Dunkerton in this match. FIST will take on one of the last cohesive units (being untouched by Wink Vavasseur’s realignments) in Chikara, the reigning King of Trios, The Spectral Envoy.

The Colony (Fire Ant and assailANT) and Los Ice Creams vs. Ophidian and The Batiri

North Carolina will get its share of atomicos action, as the new Colony will team with unlikely partners, Los Ice Creams, to take on Delirious’ army. Fire Ant and assailANT have been gelling as a unit recently, since the ants were rearranged last year. Obariyon and Kodama will challenge for the Campeonatos de Parejas the following night in Georgia. A win for Ophidian (who is nursing a knee injury) and The Batiri would boost their momentum going into that title challenge.

3.0 (Scott Parker and Shane Matthews) vs. Colony: Xtreme Force (Orbit Adventure Ant and Arctic Rescue Ant)

The current Campeonatos de Parejas, 3.0, gear up for their title defense against the Batiri the next night in Georgia by taking on Wink Vavasseur’s pet project, Colony: Xtreme Force. Chikara fans still know little about the Xtreme Force ants, and there’s not much footage for opponents to study. Also, with the resignation of Soldier Ant, Vavasseur is looking for a new leader for Colony: Xtreme Force, so one has to wonder if that new leader will be revealed in Georgia. 3.0 cannot afford a loss to this new team, and they cannot afford to underestimate this new team.

Amasis vs. The Shard

Amasis made his return to Chikara last year at the Under the Hood iPPV. For months, he haunted his former partner, Ophidian. He was supposed to make his in-ring return last month at The Shoulder of Pallas, but Ophidian and The Batiri attacked. The match was rescheduled for the next Chikara iPPV in June. Before he gets his hands on Ophidian again, Amasis must take on The Shard. The Shard and his usual tag team partner, Jigsaw, have been entered in Tag World Grand Prix in two weeks, so wins in single competition will only boost their momentum.

Archibald Peck vs. Jigsaw

Archibald Peck is on the list of future challengers for the Grand Championship. He gets his shot in the second half of the Tag World Grand Prix event. His warmup for that match is another tough challenge, Jigsaw. Jigsaw is a first generation, Chikara original, and definitely no pushover for Peck. Jigsaw’s recent change of attitude may make him even more dangerous as he prepares for Tag World Grand Prix with his Pieces of Hate partner, The Shard. Big things on the horizon for both men, and both need the win.

Saturyne vs. Missile Assault Ant

Two relative newcomers meet for the first time in singles action. Missile Assault Ant, one-third of Colony: Xtreme Force, makes his singles debut while his stablemates take on the reigning Campeonatos de Parejas. Saturyne and Missile Assault Ant faced off in Colony: Xtreme Force’s debut match.
