Barbed Wire City Officially Announces NYC Screening of Documentary
Barbed Wire City is pleased to announce the New York City premiere screening of the documentary film Barbed Wire City: The Unauthorized Story of Extreme Championship Wrestling. The screening will take place at the Gramercy Theatre on Saturday May 4th at 12 noon (doors open at 11am), with a Q&A session to follow.
“We figured if we do Philadelphia, we better do New York City, or some of the fans—and some of the people in the film—will never let us forget it,” joked Kevin Kiernan, Co-Director of the film. “New York and Extreme Championship Wrestling have a long history,” added John Philapavage, Co-Director and Producer of Barbed wire City. “That’s actually something we profile in a portion of our film. There’s a lot of footage from New York. We came to Queens to film ourselves. So I’m really happy that we’re screening in Manhattan, and I’m hoping some of those same crazy people I watched on all those Elks Lodge shows (the company’s Queens, NY venue) show up at this thing and have some fun.”
The Gramercy Theatre is located at 127 E 23rd St, New York, New York 10010

Barbed Wire City is an unauthorized documentary film studying the subculture and story of defunct pro wrestling promotion Extreme Championship Wrestling. The promotion rose to prominence from humble beginnings in 1992, had a massive effect on the wrestling boom of the late 90s, and went bankrupt in early 2001.
