LOOKING AT THIS AFTERNOON'S CHIKARA SHOW AT WRESTLECON

By Josh Higham on 2013-04-06 08:44:48

Chikara presents “The Shoulder of Pallas” Saturday April 6, 2013 at the Meadowlands Convention Center in Secaucus, NJ as part of WrestleCon. Belltime is 4 pm.

Chikara returns to the Northeast with their participation in Wrestlecon. The wrestling world descends upon New Jersey, trying to capitalize on the mania. Other companies are expecting their biggest audiences in years and complete sellouts. Chikara has major shows on the horizon: Tag World Grand Prix returns in May in Chicago and Chikara’s next iPPV foray emanates from Philadelphia in June. Everyone will want to get wins on this big stage and gain momentum going into those events.

Chikara Grand Championship:
Eddie Kingston vs. Hallowicked

Director of Fun Wink Vavassuer's determination to take the Grand Championship off Eddie Kingston grew after the title defense in Orlando had to be cancelled. The Grand Championship must now be defended at every Chikara event. Kingston's first challenger under this edict is Hallowicked, a Gen One original who wrestled on the first Chikara event. Hallowicked has wrestled more matches in Chikara than almost everyone else, winning Tag World Grand Prix, Campeonatos de Parejas, Young Lions Cup, and King of Trios along the way. Kingston and Hallowicked have more found themselves teaming on the tecnico side of recent Ciberneticos, but the two feuded for months back in 2007. Whoever comes out of this contest the Grand Champion will have to deal with Green Ant and Mr. Touchdown as the next challengers when Chikara heads to the South in May. Ultramantis Black speaks on behalf of Hallowicked here: http://youtu.be/r-bBfl7EV2Y?t=1m43s

Amasis vs. Ophidian

Amasis was knocked out of action by an out of the ring injury in 2011. When Amasis announced his retirement at the High Noon iPPV, Ophidian destroyed the Osirian Portal, spitting venom at his fallen partner. Throughout 2012, Ophidian transformed, becoming the commander of Delirious' army. Still, he was haunted by fans wearing replica masks of Amasis, including a large crowd of them at the Under the Hood iPPV. Within that group of fans was the real Amasis. Since December, Amasis has popped up at every Chikara event, finally getting physical and taking out the members of the Batiri in Tampa. Amasis speaks: http://youtu.be/l0a_OYqxkaA?t=1m28s

3.0 (Scott Parker and Shane Matthews), Gran Akuma, and Marty Jannetty vs. FIST (Icarus, Johnny Gargano, Chuck Taylor, and Sugar Dunkerton)

Icarus has said recently in his pep talks to Sugar Dunkerton that Marty Jannetty is his tag team wrestling hero. Now, he gets to face off with his hero. The new-look FIST will work as a quartet for the first time since Sugar Dunkerton joined the fray. Icarus and Sugar Dunkerton have been finally gaining a rapport as teammates, which seems to irritate Chuck Taylor and Johnny Gargano. FIST has plenty of history with their opponents, the current Campeonatos de Parejas, 3.0, and former member of FIST, Gran Akuma. BooYakuma, as they've been called, team up with former WWE Intercontinental and Tag Team Champion Marty Jannetty, on recommendation from Rick Martel. Jannetty has not been a stranger to Chikara, challenging for the Campeonatos de Parejas in December with Sean Waltman as his partner. Mike Quackenbush and ??? vs. Jigsaw and The Shard

Mike Quackenbush failed to get wins over Jigsaw and The Shard at the events in Florida with Green Ant and Fire Ant as his partners. in New Jersey, he'll come with a new partner and try to take away the point the new "Dream Team" won in Orlando. Quackenbush had to cancel a number of bookings in March after having an emergency surgery. His back problems throughout his career are well-documented and provide a huge target for Jigsaw and The Shard. While Jig and The Shard will be prepared for Mike Quackenbush, there is no way to prepare for an unknown opponent, especially when possibilities are almost endless. The locker rooms, convention halls, and hotels of New Jersey will be full of potential teammates with a lot of the wrestling world descending upon the area. Quackenbush spoke to Jigsaw a few weeks ago on Event Center:http://youtu.be/l0a_OYqxkaA?t=2m30s Jigsaw retorts: http://youtu.be/r-bBfl7EV2Y?t=3m47s

The Colony (Fire Ant, Green Ant, and assailANT) and Frightmare vs. Soldier Ant and The Colony: Xtreme Force (Missile Assault Ant, Arctic Rescue Ant, and Orbit Adventure Ant)

The Colony was blown up last year when Solider Ant was moved to The Swarm and assailANT took his spot in The Colony. Dissatisfied with his spot in The Swarm, Soldier Ant abandoned his partner deviANT in Reading. Director of Fun Wink Vavasseur promised Soldier Ant a new team to captain, which turned out to be Colony: Xtreme Force who debuted in March. Soldier Ant is unhappy with his new team, sending coded messages on Twitter. Vavasseur called the members of the classic Colony to his office shortly after the Florida events, telling them to bring their King of Trios medals. Vavasseur seems to want to put a further rift between the ants with this match.

Four Corner Elimination Match:
The Throwbacks (Mr. Touchdown and Dasher Hatfield) vs. Devastation Corporation (Blaster McMassive and Max Smashmaster) vs. The Batiri (Obariyon and Kodama) vs. The Spectral Envoy (Ultramantis Black and Blind Rage)

Three possible points are on the line as four teams try to rack up a quick road to the Campeonatos de Parejas. Three of the teams have challenged for the Campeonatos in the past few years, with the Devastation Corporation most recently failing to win the titles last month in Florida. The Throwbacks team together for the first time in months, after Mr. Touchdown's recent promise to be a better teammate. The Batiri sit with two points, so they only have to win the final fall to get the title shot. Ultramantis Black returns from injury to team with ally Blind Rage, who returned to action at the Under the Hood iPPV. Sidney Bakabella, the manager of Devastation Corporation, talks about it here: http://youtu.be/2usBHEFIhZ8?t=1m54s

Archibald Peck vs. Tim Donst

These two faced off twice already this year, both resulting in disqualification wins for Peck. In February, Peck won when Donst kicked him low. In March, Peck won when Steve "The Turtle" Weiner attacked him after Peck inadvertently hit Veronica from the top rope. Turtle showed some affection for Veronica on commentary during the March events. After the attack, Donst seemed to get in his head as Turtle carried Veronica to the back. They meet again this weekend, and there must be a decisive winner. Peck will have to watch his back with the crowd that will follow Donst to the ring.

Saturyne vs. Kobald

Saturyne and Kobald face off once again, a year after their first one-on-one encounter. Saturyne had major issues with The Batiri in 2012, as The Batiri had their sights set on Sara Del Rey. Saturyne stepped up to help her mentor, winning a handicap tag match at the Chikarasaurus Rex: How to Hatch a Dinosaur iPPV. Saturyne’s 2012 was derailed by an injury. She returned to challenge for the Young Lion’s Cup in February, but came out on the losing end.  Match preview.
