SECOND, MORE DETAILED, WWE IN TORONTO LIVE REPORT

By Phil Marquis on 2013-03-02 08:25:48

MATCH 1: Brodus Clay and Tensai (with Naomi and Cameron) defeated Heath Slater and Drew McIntyre (with Jinder Mahal) with a double splash. Tensai got a big pop for suplexing Slater and McIntyre at the same time. After the match a few kids were invited into the ring to dance with Clay and Tensai. After that Tensai danced a little bit more with Naomi and Cameron.

THE SHIELD VIDEO PROMO: The Shield says they are going to put the finishing touches on their masterpiece. They are going to solve the John Cena problem. Cena will be lucky if he even walks out of Toronto. They finish by saying "BELIEVE IN THE SHIELD!"

ANNOUNCEMENT: Justin Roberts asked the crowd to Tweet to vote for the match type for The Miz vs. Antonio Cesaro for the US Title. The choices are 2/3 falls match or No DQ.

MATCH 2: Justin Gabriel defeated JTG with the 450 splash. The Shield ambushed Gabriel after the match and gave him the triple powerbomb. Ambrose, Rollins and Reigns each had their turn to address the crowd. They said they are the most dangerous unit, justice was served, Toronto is filled with injustice and believe in the shield!

MATCH 3: Bray Wyatt defeated Michael McGillicutty with a headbutt followed by a twisty armdrag takedown. Wyatt had a promo before the match. He has this Southern-Floridian, hipster, stoner gimmick and said where he comes from people are better, they earn what they get and they aren't afraid to get their hands dirty. He finished by saying that he's better than the crowd.

ANTONIO CESARO VIDEO PROMO: Cesaro says The Miz's biggest worry is if his tie and shirt don't match. Cesaro says he's the greatest US Champion of all time. He spoke some German at the end.

MATCH 4: Layla defeated Tamina with a kick to the face. Vickie Guerrero was the guest ring announcer and was supporting Tamina throughout. Vickie tried to distract Layla but it backfired.

MATCH 5: Antonio Cesaro defeated The Miz in a no DQ match to retain the US Championship. Not two minutes in and Cesaro decided he had enough of the match and tried to walk out but Miz caught up to him and beat him up. They mostly made use of the kendo stick. The crowd was chanting for tables. Cesaro teased getting a table but placed it back under the ring. The Miz tried to get a table but Cesaro thwarted him and put the table back. Eventually Miz did get a table and half the legs were broken so he only set half of it up. They teased a sunset flip and back suplex through the table to the crowd's excitement. Cesaro eventually won. Cesaro left but came back to beat up on The Miz some more. Cesaro tried to throw Miz through the table (which was in the corner now) but Miz escaped and managed to spear Cesaro through the table.

ANNOUNCEMENT: Justin Roberts announced that the night's crowd broke the record for attendance at Ricoh Coliseum with 10279 fans (I cannot remember if this is for any event or only WWE events, sorry. The place looked sold out though). Fans will have the opportunity to meet Ryback in Brampton on Saturday. There was a video ad for the WrestleMania reading challenge. Roberts pushed the WWE limited edition collector's cup, the new superstar "I Was There" shirt, the new program, and autographed CM Punk, Ryback and Cena photos. (NOTE: they were also selling a new piece of Cena merchandise, the John Cena multi-colored lightstick)

MATCH 6: Zack Ryder defeated Michael McGillicutty

MATCH 7: CM Punk defeated Kofi Kingston with the GTS. CM Punk addressed the crowd before the match. He tore up some signs and addressed some of the insults people were saying: "I don't suck", "You're sign is insulting me and mentions a man who isn't even here tonight". He said he's from Chicago and his hockey team is undefeated because people from Chicago are the best in the world. Of note, CM Punk mocked Kingston's "Boom" move and theatrics during the match but it backfired. Kingston followed up with the real thing.

MATCH 8: John Cena and Ryback defeated The Shield because The Shield got disqualified due to a chair shot. Last year, in the same venue, Ryback performed as a nobody and now he's in the main event. Good for him. There were almost constant "Let's go Cena, Cena sucks!" and "Feed me more!" chants during the match. After the match, The Shield tried to triple powerbomb Ryback but Cena made the save. Cena and Ryback hit their finishers on two members of The Shield to end the night.
