NEW ENGLAND CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING RETURNING TO BROADCAST TV

New England Championship Wrestling, headed by Sheldon Goldberg, issued the following press release:

New Series on Thursday Nights Beginning April 4th!

New England Championship Wrestling (NECW) proudly announces its broadcast television debut with a weekly half-hour broadcast on Boston’s PLUM TV, WMFP TV, Channel 62 in Boston, Thursday nights at 12:30 AM beginning April 4, 2013.

Presenting professional wrestling “from New England, for New England fans,” New England Championship Wrestling has been presenting live events throughout the region since 2000. The emphasis is on local stars.

“In many ways, New England Championship Wrestling is a throwback to how pro wrestling was presented before the national expansion of pro wrestling in the 1980’s, said NECW promoter, Sheldon Goldberg. “We are strictly a regional operation. We operate in smaller venues and bring our fans a very up close and personal experience.”

Over the years, NECW has featured many stars that went on to become big names in professional wrestling, such as John Cena, Beth Phoenix, Kofi Kingston, Doug Williams and others.

NECW’s current Heavyweight Champion, Antonio “The Promise” Thomas is a former WWE star who actually spent the early part of his career competing in NECW rings.

“The quality of athlete here in NECW is very high and just because it’s a local presentation doesn’t mean you’re seeing also-rans,” Goldberg added. “The action is top notch. We’re a family-oriented business that attracts fans in all age categories, and unlike a lot of pro sports today, this is affordable to the average family as a live event experience, and now that we’re on conventional TV it’s going to be a lot more accessible.”

WMFP TV will bring New England Championship Wrestling into approximately 2.3 million homes throughout Greater Boston, Metrowest, the Blackstone Valley area and north into southern New Hampshire and the southern most tip of Maine.

While this program will mark the company’s broadcast TV debut, NECW is no stranger to producing video programming. “We were the first company in our industry to use the Internet as a means of distributing original video content. In 2004, before YouTube, Facebook, My Space, etc., we produced a weekly online TV show. In 2010, we did a weekly broadcast on Comcast On Demand. This new program, while a late night offering, will have 100% availability to viewers in our primary area, so we expect more people to watch.”

In addition to its weekly airing, New England Championship Wrestling will also be making each episode available on its YouTube channel.

“What you are going to be seeing is the real drama of young men and women dedicated to professional wrestling, who are realizing a dream by being on TV,” said Goldberg.
