With the potential WWE Network getting closer to fruition, Comcast, the largest cable company in the US, announced today that they are buying General Electric's 49% interest in NBC Universal for $16.7 billion dollars. Comcast had planned to buy out GE down the road, but cited low borrowing costs to do the deal now at what Comcast CEO Brian Roberts called a "very attractive price."
Of course, NBC Universal airs Raw and Smackdown on its USA and SyFy networks. Comcast carrying the WWE Network, provided it's a cable channel and not an internet entity, is vital to the venture having a chance at succeeding.
