DARREN’S WIN-LOSS RECORDS COLUMN: WEEK 5
Welcome to Week 5 of 2013. This week is the final week of January. The week ends on Februrary 2 after Saturday Morning Slam, but the month ends following Impact on January 31. Now, to this week’s news & notes.
On Raw, we had the 4th meeting between Randy Orton and Antonio Cesaro. They last wrestled last Monday on Raw also in the opening match. This week’s Raw was a special Raw Roulette show, with every match taking place due to the spin of the wheel. But, out of all of the matches, there were only 2 Gimmick Matches, bringing the total overall to 18 and 14 for WWE. The 2 Gimmick Matches that counted were the Las Vegas Showgirl Lumberjill Match and the Tables Match. Both matches were the 1st this year. The Special Guest Referee Match, the Player’s Choice Match, & the Strange Bedfellows Match do not count as Gimmick Matches since they were held under normal rules. The Player’s Choice Match was the official Raw debut of Bo Dallas, so since he competed on Raw, he’s now an official member of the WWE Roster. Speaking of that, since Chris Jericho competed in the Strange Bedfellows Match, teaming with Dolph Ziggler against Team Hell No, he is also now officially back on the active WWE Roster. This was also the 1st tag team match on Raw since January 7. The Showgirls Lumberjill Match was the 1st Diva’s Match to end with a No Contest and was the 1st No Contest since the Time Limit Draw last Monday between Sheamus & Wade Barrett. The Make Me Laugh Challenge, the Bodyslam Challenge, the Dance Contest, & the Karaoke Challenge do not count since they were not official matches. Also, the Bodyslam Challenge never got started, since Big show attacked Del Rio before the referee could ring the bell.
On Main Event, we had the 2nd consecutive week that Ryback wrestled Antonio Cesaro, giving us another re-match added to the count. It was also the 2nd week in a row that their match ended by Count Out. Cesaro has wrestled on 4 out of the 5 episodes of Main Event this month. The only show he didn’t compete on was January 9 and has wrestled in the opening match of the last 3 episodes. Also, the opening match has not ended by pinfall or submission in the last 3 weeks, as this week and last week ended by Count Out and the week before was a No Contest between Randy Orton & Antonio Cesaro. The 2nd match gave us Tensai’s 1st win after 4 straight losses.
On NXT, we saw Mason Ryan’s 1st match since losing to Dolph Ziggler on Superstars on May 3, 2012. We also had 2 more matches in the 1st Round of the NXT Tag Team Championship Tournament. In one match, we had the 1st time teaming of Derrick Bateman & Alex Riley in a loss to Leo Kruger & Kassius Ohno. This was the 1st time that Bateman was in action since October 27 on Saturday Morning Slam when he lost to Antonio Cesaro and this was Riley’s 1st match since October 17 on NXT when he lost to Jinder Mahal. The other match was the 2nd time that Bo Dallas & Michael McGillicutty wrestled Epico & Primo. They previously wrestled each other on January 9 on NXT. With this match, Bo Dallas became the 1st wrestler to compete on Pay-Per-View, Raw, & NXT in the same week this year.
On Superstars, Epico & Primo became the 1st wrestlers to main event NXT and then wrestle in the opening match the next night on Superstars. This was also the 2nd week in a row that Epico & Primo wrestled on Superstars. The other match saw Kofi Kingston defeat Michael McGillicutty. This was their 2nd match against each other this month, as they wrestled on Superstars on January 17. This was Kofi’s 3rd week in a row wrestling on Superstars.
On Impact, we saw the return of Magnus. He last competed against Samoa Joe at Turning Point on November 11. Impact gave us 2 more Gimmick Matches to the list and our final 2 Gimmick Matches of January, bringing the total overall to 20 and 6 for TNA. We had a Mixed Tag Team Match, which was the 1st one on Impact since January 10. We also had a Steel Cage Match between Kurt Angle & Mr. Anderson, which was the 1st time Impact has had a Steel Cage Match since January 3, when Angle & Joe defeated The Aces & Eights. Magnus’ win over Devon by Disqualification was the 1st DQ on Impact since January 10 when Jeff Hardy & James Storm defeated Austin Aries & Bobby Roode.
On Smackdown, we start February with the return of Jack Swagger in his victory over Kofi Kingston. This was Jack’s 1st match since he lost to Sheamus on Raw on September 3. Smackdown gave us the 1st No Contest of February and 2nd one this week with Sheamus VS Damien Sandow. That match also became the 1st match to be rematched in January & February. Smackdown also saw the return to tag team action of Sin Cara & Rey Mysterio, since they both returned at the Royal Rumble. This was the 2nd Smackdown in a row that Antonio Cesaro didn’t compete and the 1st Smackdown this year that there was no Diva’s Matches on Smackdown.
On Saturday Morning Slam, Dolph Ziggler became the 1st wrestler this year to main event Smackdown and then wrestle in the opening match the next morning. This was the 1st Saturday Morning Slam matches for all 4, Dolph Ziggler, Zack Ryder, Wade Barrett, & Yoshi Tatsu this year.
Now without further ado, here are the Win-Loss Records for this week, followed by the results of the week that was. Thanks again to Mike for posting it and all of you for reading it. Please send all feedback and comments to my Twitter Account (@hbkid718).
