WWE NOTES & NEWS: BIG AWARD FOR EDGE, BIG NIGHT FOR SMACKDOWN, PRICHARD ON DEVELOPMENTAL, SNUKA & LONDON INTERVIEWS AND MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2013-01-18 15:33:13
Although it hasn't really been pushed hard, tonight's episode of Smackdown is episode 700.

Adam "Edge" Copeland will receive the Lou Thesz award at the 2013 Tragos/Thesz Pro Wrestling Hall Of Fame in Waterloo, Iowa this July. That's a pretty huge honor. Thanks to Terri Bey

Alberto Del Rio and Ricardo Rodriguez will be appearing at the 1/31 WWE NXT taping.

A brief clip of Alberto Del Rio and Big Show facing off on WWE TV was shown on The Jimmy Kimmel Show last night during an "Unnecessary Censorship" segment. Thanks to Chris Brotton.

Online now in the PWInsider Elite section are new interviews with WWE Hall of Famer Jimmy Snuka and Paul London, which have both gotten really great responses from subscribers. You can subscribe to the Elite section by clicking here.

The Snuka interview features discussion on his new autobiography, the culture shock of coming from the Islands to the United States, his feuds with Don Muraco and Bob Backlund, what was going through his mind when he climbed the cage against Muraco in one of the true iconic moments of the business, his friendship with Bruiser Brody, the differences in the business today, being promised the WWF title, his close relationship with Vince McMahon Sr., what he told Tommy Dreamer would happen if he didn't kick out of the Superfly Splash, why he allowed ECW to book that angle, his ankle injury and how he's feeling today, returning to the ring, whether it was hard to let people inside the Piper's Pit angle, memories of doing dozens of TV interviews at a time, his mindset on interviews, The Crocketts, his favorite promoter to work for in Japan, facing the Undertaker at Wrestlemania and yes, independent wrestling fans - how Snuka met the infamous Metal Maniac!

The Paul London interview is a long, deep discussion on a ton of topics, including personal journey back towards happiness, falling in love with wrestling and performing again, his youth and immaturity playing a part in his issues while working for WWE, what it was like going on the road at that stage in his emotional development, how he once offended the Undertaker accidentally in a bar, how he ended up punished, why he was so paranoid and bitter during his run there, his reactions to people who assume they know him based on the shoot interviews with did a few years ago, breaking into the acting world, comparing it to breaking into wrestling, whether the wrestling background helps him or not, touring Pro Wrestling NOAH in Japan, finding his love for performing in the business again, whether he wants to work more on the indies, indy locker rooms compared to when he was breaking in, the project he and his brother are developing, comparing acting schools to wrestling schools, his own personal happiness and much more.

Tom Prichard has an excellent new blog entry up looking at the state of developing talent. How this guy isn't working for a national company I will never understand. You can read it at this link.
