BY THE NUMBERS: LOOKING BACK AT THE (ABRIDGED) WEEK IN WRESTLING (WITH A NEW RECORD FOR WRESTLING ON A SINGLE SHOW)

By Richard Trionfo on 2012-12-29 16:55:02
The final full week of 2012 features only four of the seven shows because NXT, Superstars, and Ring of Honor had ‘Best of’ episodes. The only show that will air another program in 2012 showed that the holiday season was not going to keep us from seeing a lot of wrestling. Raw won the week after giving Smackdown the chance last week. Raw also set a single show record with sixty-two minutes of wrestling, breaking its record set on November 5th.

Without NXT, the drop off from last week was only four minutes because the nineteen minutes lost from NXT and the fourteen minute drop by Smackdown was offset by a thirty minute increase by Raw.

Main Event broke its one week old record with twenty-six minutes of wrestling and for the first time, both matches were more than ten minutes. Of the four shows this week, the only one that did not have a ten minute match was Smackdown.

Five of the twenty-three matches this week were more than ten minutes long. The average match length was more than six and a half minutes.

The Big Show versus Sheamus match on Raw was the one hundredth match on Raw to go more than ten minutes. Just under one quarter of the matches on Raw were either a one minute match or a ten minute match.

Next week, I will have the December totals as well as the totals for 2012

While there was a ‘new match’ on NXT between Kane and Cody Rhodes, since it was a ‘dark match’ from the tapings, it will not be included in the totals.

This column does not include the matches from WWE's Saturday Morning Slam show.

The wrestling times below cover the wrestling that takes place during the show so commercials are not included. All times are rounded to the closest minute (examples: a 4:23 match will be listed as 4 minutes while a 4:32 match will be listed as 5 minutes and anything under a minute is rounded up to a minute).
