NOTES FOR WEEK 31:
Welcome to Week 31 of Darren’s Win-Loss Records Column for the week of July 30 – August 6, 2012. We started the week with Raw, ending the month of July and then started August with the rest of the week. I hope you enjoyed the July Month in Review. But first, I have a correction. For some reason, my counts for Title Matches were wrong. The correct number before this week should be 112 Overall, with 54 for WWE & 58 for TNA. I apologize for the error, as well as any errors that I may have missed in any of my previous columns. Now, to this week’s news & notes.
On Raw, we ended July with the final 2 June-July Re-Matches, as this was the 2nd time that Alberto Del Rio & Santino Marella wrestled each other in 2 months, as well as John Cena & The Big Show and the final July only Re-Match between Tyson Kidd & Tensai. The Street Fight between Sheamus & Daniel Bryan was the final Gimmick Match of July, giving us 126 Overall and 82 for WWE. According to WWE.com, Brodus Clay and Vickie Guerrero were scheduled for a Dance Contest when Damien Sandow interfered. Since it wasn’t a match, no one receives a win or a loss. Randy Orton returned to action after “a 60 day vacation”, bringing him back to the list, in a victory over Heath Slater. This was Orton’s 1st match since losing to Alberto Del Rio in a Triple Threat #1 Contender’s Match, along with Kane on the May 25 episode of Smackdown. Originally, Tensai defeated Tyson Kidd, but then due to Tensai’s continued attack on Kidd, the referee reversed the decision, giving us our 4th consecutive Raw with a Disqualification decision. The WWE Championship #1 Contender’s Match ended in a No Contest, giving us our 1st No Contest on Raw since July 16. Also, the No Contest gave us John Cena’s 7th Draw, giving him the most Draws in both companies. This was his 3rd No Contest out of 4 matches this month.
On NXT, the Gold Rush Tournament to crown the 1st ever NXT Champion began with 2 Quarterfinal Matches. Those 2 matches, Richie Steamboat VS Leo Kruger and Seth Rollins VS Drew McIntyre, also gave us our 1st 2 July-August Re-Matches, as this was the 2nd time both matches took place. NXT also gave us the debuts of Big E. Langston, Adam Mercer, & Audrey Marie. Jason Jordan made his return to action on NXT, after not competing at all in July and last competing on NXT in June, with a huge win along with Mike Dalton over Camacho & Hunico.
On Superstars, we had Superstars’ 100th Match, which the main event of Justin Gabriel VS Cody Rhodes. The Layla VS Natalya Non-Title Match was the 1st Diva’s Match on WWE TV or online, not including NXT, since the July 12 episode of Superstars, which was Alicia Fox & Kaitlyn VS Natalya & Beth Phoenix. It was Layla’s 1st match this year on Superstars. It was also Heath Slater’s 1st match on Superstars since losing to Kane on June 28. This episode was the 1st time on Superstars that every match had Smackdown only matches and had no Raw matches or wrestlers in them. This was due to the fire that took place prior to Raw on Monday, not allowing them to tape any Raw matches for the show.
On Impact, we added to our Gimmick Match count, with the Knockout’s 4-Way Match, bringing the total to 127 Overall and 45 for TNA. It was also the 1st Gimmick Match of August. It was the 1st 4-Way on Impact since the last Knockout’s #1 Contender’s Match on June 7. We also had Chavo Guerrero make his in-ring TNA debut, adding him to list, making him the 3rd Guerrero behind Vickie & Raquel Diaz to be added. Though he wrestled on Pay-Per-View in both June & July, this week was Kid Kash’s 1st match on Impact since March 22. Even though this was the 2nd time that James Storm and Kurt Angle was scheduled to wrestle each other, it is not considered a Re-Match, since 2 weeks ago, Angle was attacked by The Aces & Eights and the match never took place. This was the 1st Impact in 2 weeks to not have a No Contest.
On Smackdown, we had 2 more matches added to our July-August Re-Matches, as this was the 2nd week in a row that both the Santino Marella VS Antonio Cesaro Match and the Ryback VS Jinder Mahal Match took place. This week was the 1st time that Ryback has won a match by Disqualification and 2nd week in a row that he didn’t win match by pinfall. This was the 1st time since July 20 that Smackdown had 2 Disqualifications on the same show.
Now without further ado, here are the Win-Loss Records for this week, followed by the results of the week that was. Thanks again to Mike for posting it and all of you for reading it. Please send all feedback and comments to my Twitter Account (@hbkid718).
