SPOILERS FOR TONIGHT'S ROH TV SHOW

By Mike Specian on 2012-08-04 08:49:38
Here are live spoilers and impressions from the episode of ROH TV that will air this weekend.  The episode was taped in the DuBurns Arena in Baltimore on June 29.

Between the second and third TV tapings, ROH taped a web exclusive match between Thomas & JT Marshall (pronounced mahr-shal) and Coleman & Alexander.  After the match, Marshall turned on his partner and grabbed the mic.  He said that ROH is a million dollar corporation and he is a million dollar player.  I couldn’t help but raise my eyebrows.  I threw a glance over to one of the camera techs at ringside.  He shrugged and said, “Someday.”

TRUTH MARTINI:  Ladies and gentlemen, it’s time to change the face of wrestling with the faceless.  I introduce to you the newest members of the House of Truth, the Guardians of Truth!

Match 1: The Briscoes def. The Guardians of Truth (with Truth Martini) in 8:30 – Truth is dressed in all black to match his charges.  As the GOT went for a double suplex on Mark, Jay speared one and Mark rolled up the other for the pin.  Post-match Roderick Strong and Rhino hit the ring to attack the Briscoes.  Jay Lethal, Coleman & Alexander and Adam Cole make the save.

Kevin Kelly and Eddie Kingston come to the ring.

KELLY:  You are the Chikara Grand Champion and will face Kevin Steen for the ROH Title at Boiling Point on August 11 in Providence, Rhode Island.  I have a question for you.  What does “redemption” mean to Eddie Kingston?

KINGSTON:  Redemption to me is being the Ring of Honor World Heavyweight Champion.

[Someone loudly in the crowd proclaims, “Not gonna happen!”]

KINGSTON:  For ten long, hard years I have struggled to become a world champion.  For ten long, hard years I have hurt everyone in my family.  I have hurt women who I have loved to become a world champion – to chase the dream.  On August 11, in Rhode Island, I will have my opportunity.  You know what?  See my eyes?  Look behind them.  For ten years I’ve struggled, for ten years I’ve cried, lying in bed and wondering why do I do this?  Why do I sacrifice?  Well you know what?  On August 11, when I win that world title, I’m going to show it to my mother and father who said, “What are you an idiot for getting into wrestling?” and I’m going to show it to them and show that that the proof is in the pudding.  I’m going to show it to my ex-wife, who I left to stay in wrestling.  And I’m going to tell her, “Sweetheart, I still love you, but this is what it was for.

KINGSTON:  And then the two most important people – Number 1, a man who passed away last year, Larry Sweeney, who I considered my brother.  When I win that title from you, Kevin Steen, I’m going to say a prayer to him and tell him I did it.  And the last person and most important person is my son.  I’m going to tell him that no matter what you go through, no matter what struggle you go through, if you sacrifice and you fight, you can live your dream and be anything that you want to be.  So on August 11, in Providence, Rhode Island, as God is my witness, I will go through hell and spit in Satan’s face to become World Champion because I am Eddie Kingston.  I am the last of a dying breed and your next Ring of Honor World Champion.

[My live impression is the reaction to Kingston was decidedly mixed.  He’s basically come out of nowhere to be thrust right back into the title picture.  I get the sense that no one actually believes he stands a chance.]

Match 2: Mike Bennett (with Brutal Bob and Maria) def. Lance Storm – This match seemed to drag on forever.  I respect Lance Storm, but I just found this to be boring.  He pulled as much as he could out of Bennett, but I didn’t think it was all that much.  In the end, Bob threw a chair into the ring and Bennett dropped Storm on it to get the pin while Maria distracted the referee.  Like she did two weeks ago, Maria removed her boot and smashed it into Storm’s head.  This drew out Sarah del Ray and Eddie Edwards to run them off.

After things had settled down, Lance Storm had a nice moment where he thanked and said goodbye to the crowd.

STORM:  I said this was going to be my last match, win or lose.  Thank you guys for supporting me.

CROWD:  Thank you, Lance!  Thank you, Lance!  Thank you, Lance!

STORM:  Thank you, thank Ring of Honor, and thank the great sport of professional wrestling.
