7/6 PWX RESULTS FROM CHARLOTTE, NC: LODI, FLAIR, BRISCOES, TITUS, STRONG, KONLEY AND MORE

By David Houston on 2012-07-07 10:30:06

Premiere Wrestling Xperience ran their debut card at the Neighborhood Theatre last night in Charlotte and had an excellent card in front of one of the largest, hottest crowds they've ever had in the city, at least 350 people. The show started maybe 10-15 minutes late due to having to seat the larger crowd in a new venue but the staff was very helpful.

At the outset of the show, they ran a video message from the Briscoes, who were advertised for the 4 team tag title main event. Jay and Mark announced they wouldn't be able to make it with the current heatwave wreaking havoc on their chicken farm and they told the fans to not blame PWX but be mad at the Briscoes and they would make sure to come to Charlotte to kick the ass of whoever won the tag match and take their titles. Classy move by Dem Boys.

In the opener, Zane Riley pinned Craig Huffman, overcoming being attacked by former tag partner Jimmy Jack Funk Jr. Riley is a big guy but he's looks to be losing some weight and getting in better shape and it's paying off as he seems to get better every time I see him wrestle. Riley and Funk are set to have a bullrope match in York, SC Saturday night.

PWX then showed a short video package announcing Mike Bennett and Maria making their debut for the company at the next show at the Theatre.

The popular Adam Page was pinned by "Mr Elite" Drew Myers after being kicked in the face by Roderick Strong.

In a six man match featuring a lot of guys making their PWX debuts, Alex Bird, Jason Blade, and Ernie Osiris beat Marcus Street, Circo, and Danny Only.

After mocking his opponent and promising to be the first man in PWX to defeat him, Roderick Strong was pinned by Chivas Kid with a rollup after Strong was distracted by Page, giving Kid the biggest win of his career.  Strong then challenged Page to settle their feud once and for all at the York, SC show. Page eagerly accepted. Big "Thank You, Goat Boy" chant for Chiva as Page helped him to the back.

Amber O'Neal won her match over a very green performer who's name I wasn't able to hear or learn later. O'Neal won after blowing glitter on her opponent's face and dropping her with a faceplant.

After the brief intermission, another video package was shown for the incoming ROH World champion Kevin Steen. It was announced that Steen would not only wrestle but defend his ROH title against Cedric Alexander at the PWX return to the Theatre in Aug. Alexander came out and cut a short promo.

Rhett Titus successfully defended his PWX title against Arik Royal after Royal missed a charge in the corner and Titus pinned him clean after a leaping DDT. Good match with some great near falls.

Lodi pinned Reid Flair, in the best match I've ever seen him in, with a DDT. He's still a work in progress but he's improved since I saw him last summer in Georgia at the NWA Fanfest. After the match, Lodi was attacked and beaten badly by the "Southern Savior" John Skyler.

In the advertised main event, PWX tag team champions Corey Hollis and Chip Day beat the Great Outdoors ("Manscout" Jake Manning and Grizzly Redwood) and 7-OH!-4 (Cedric Alexander and Caleb Konley) in a three team match by pinning Alexander. Great match with a lot of highspots and great wrestling.

With just Alexander and Konley in the ring, Titus appeared in the balcony and mocked them for losing in their hometown again and promised to beat Konley again the next night in York in their title match. A furious Konley challenged Titus for a match right then and put his title shot the next night on the line if he couldn't beat Titus in 5 minutes. Promoter Tyshion Williams took the mic and made it a title match.

Titus came down and stalled for at least 2 minutes and even walked to the back only to be brought back and thrown in the ring by Alexander. With 30 seconds left, Konley made Titus submit and won his first PWX title to a great pop.
All around fun show and I'm glad PWX seems to be gaining momentum in the local market as they put on a great product and work hard to build up and feature local guys and bringing in bigger names from larger companies.
