DREAMER VS. LETHAL VS. CARLITO, LONDON, HARRY SMITH AND MORE: FWE DSYFUNCTIONAL FAMILY IN NYC LIVE REPORT

By Andrew Hernandes on 2012-06-10 10:18:55

It was a good sized venue. Fans were really excited. Lots of "YES! YES! YES!" chants. Also people making sure there was no swearing in the audience. One thing to note though was how low the ceiling was. I was wondering how the wrestlers were going to do high flying moves. Thankfully, no one hurt themselves, and through-out the show, the audience would tell out. "watch your head!" and "watch the lights"

Our opening match is Matt Taven vs Colt "Boom Boom" Cabana.

This match started off comically, but it was actually funny. Colt Cabana is freaking hilarious and what Santino should be. After a while of great comedy, Cabana starts to get serious, and we end up getting a great opening contest between the 2. Cabana wins.

We get a promo with the tags teams who all start brawling.

Next we have one of the guys from Diamond Inc. I think. (missed his name. Sorry) vs Wes Draven. A very good match. Draven does a ton of acrobatic high flying moves. The other guy, Ace I think was a great heel who really knew how to work the audience. Wes Draven wins.

Ace's partner vs Jorge Santi.

The match was pretty good. Ace partner really knows how to move for a big guy. Jorge Santi wins.

Tag team match. This was all over the place. Everybody worked hard, but it was too chaotic to follow. But still a lot of fun.

We also got a segment where Jay Lethal comes out to do a promo. Except it's not Jay Lethal, it's Black Machismo. He comes out to the NWO theme and really hams it up with his Randy Savage impression. He announces that he's filling in for Jay Lethal and that his match against Tommy Dreamer will be a hardcore match.

Carlito interrupts and then says to Machismo, "I thought you were dead and lighter skinned." He asks if Lethal is serious about leaving him out of the title match tonight and Lethal responds "Do I look like I'm joking?" Carlito replies "Don't make me answer that, brother." It's then decided that the main event will be a triple threat match with Black Machismo vs. Tommy Dreamer vs. Carlito.

Harry Smith vs. Damien Darling. "Sunny" Tammy Lynn Sytch was Damien's valet. Personally, I think she still looks attractive. I got to say though, for this being a "family" show, did the people in charge know Sunny was wearing a see-thru shirt? (I'm not complaining) I certainly wasn't the only one in the audience to notice. I heard a yell of "that's not PG!".

As for the match, it was more about shenanigans than actual wrestling, even though Smith was very impressive especially for being HUGE. He even did the Daniel Bryan "Yes" spot.

Eventually, Damien's tag team partner interferes, and Smith knocks him and Damien to the floor. But then Smith mistakes his partner for Damien and pins him instead. (They're doing the Doink/Bella nonsense?) Because Smith pinned the wrong guy, the match is restarted, but not before Damien hits Smith with a baton while the ref isn't looking. Damien wins.

Afterwards a guy runs into the ring and attacks Damien and security runs into the ring to subdue and handcuff him. I'm assuming this is an angle, but it was never followed up on.

Intermission.

Our next match is Sonjay Dutt and Daivari vs. Bandito Jr and a new tag team partner. Bandito mentions his partner Azriel  couldn't be there because of an injury, so his replacement is Mike Benett. He gets booed, then tells Bandito that he'll beat Dutt and Daivari by himself. Of course, once the bell rings, Benett tags out, and Bandito spends a majority of the match getting beaten up by the opposing team. Benett never tags back in, and eventually abandons Bandito to a chorus of boos. Bandito does his best to fend off Sonjay and Daivari, but eventually can't take anymore. Winners are Sonjay Dutt and Daivari.

Maria Kanellis vs. Jillian Hall with Winter as the ref. I got to say that all three women look hotter in person than they do on TV. The match ends pretty quickly as Winter slow counts Maria's pin while fast counting Jillian's. They start beating on Maria afterwards, but Rosita makes the save, and it's now a tag match.

Maria Kanellis and Rosita vs. Winter and Jillian Hall. A very well done match. Rosita did a lot of Lucha Libre moves and wrestled WAY better than she has on TNA before. All four ladies did a great job. Winners are Maria and Rosita.

Paul London vs Petey Williams. During London's entrance, instead of appearing through the walkway, he emerged from the audience dressed as an astronaut. He spends about one year giving high gives to the audience while Williams looks annoyed. Paul London then leaves through the exit, but then comes back though the entrance walkway.

Once the match starts, it's more shenanigans, but eventually London and Williams wrestle a methodical and slow but not boring match. Both men looked great, especially the London Star Press and a more realistic Canadian Destoyer. Winner is Petey Williams. Second best match of the night.

Main event. Black Machismo vs Tommy Dreamer vs Carlito. Carlito gives his apple to Colt Cabana to hold at ringside. Colt asks if he can eat it, but Carlito says no. Colt complains that he's hungry. Again, how is this a "family" wrestling show if this match is hardcore? Besides great wrestling action, the match also told a great story with all 3 men showboating at the appropriate times and working the crowd. Carlito spit his apple on the other two, but Dreamer put the apple pieces in his mouth and spit them back at Carlito. Gross. People in the front row got hit with apple spit. Dreamer also spit water and threw apple pieces at Carlito that got into the audience as well.

Chairs and a ladder were worked in as well. After a hard hitting and grueling fight, Jay Lethal drops the flying elbow on Dreamer for the win.

My first FWE show was a great one, and it was a really fun night. I highly recommend that others check out their shows as they offer something in the middle of "pure wrestling" and "sports entertainment." It's all about fun.
