In the twenty six months that I have been doing this column, April was the fourth time that there were three pay per views in a month. The other times were October 2010, May 2011, and October 2011. In each of those months, there were only nine hours of wrestling because there was no Wrestlemania to worry about.
In October 2010, there was a total of 287 minutes of wrestling with Bound for Glory giving us ninety-nine minutes of wrestling and each offering from WWE giving us ninety-four minutes of wrestling. In May 2011, we had a total of 274 minutes of wrestling thanks to ninety-six minutes of wrestling from TNA and ninety-eight minutes from Extreme Rules, but only eighty minutes from WWE’s second offering last year. In October 2011, we had 284 minutes thanks to ninety-two minutes from Bound for Glory, ninety minutes from Hell in a Cell, and one hundred-two minutes from WWE’s second offering in October.
October 2010’s record for most wrestling in a month fell by twenty-one minutes. Wrestlemania gave us almost two hours of wrestling on the show and Lockdown and Extreme Rules were both in the mid nineties. The one hundred nineteen minutes also broke the single show record during the course of this column, surpassing Royal Rumble 2011 by three minutes.
With the two pay per views, WWE extended its advantage over TNA from twenty-two minutes to one hundred forty-four minutes. WWE has also had two more pay per views than TNA so if you go by a per show average, TNA has almost two more minutes of wrestling per show but nine fewer hours of pay per view time.
WWE finally passed the two hundred match barrier during Extreme Rules while each company passed twenty-five hundred minutes of wrestling.
The Santino Marella versus Miz pre-show match is not counted in the totals for Extreme Rules, but the match went 5 minutes.
