HOW MIZ ENDED UP WITH THE MARINE: HOMEFRONT LEAD, THE WWE STAR HE REPLACED (AND IT WASN'T RANDY ORTON)

By Mike Johnson on 2012-05-02 10:34:00
Quite a few of you have been scratching your head over The Miz being cast as the lead in "Marine: Homefront".  Well, after Randy Orton was removed from the film, WWE champion CM Punk was originally pegged for the lead role.

WWE sources indicate that Vince McMahon stepped in and vetoed that decision, not because Punk can't carry a film (they have been looking for a lead role for him) but because McMahon decided that the company couldn't afford Punk to be off TV and the road right now.

With Miz getting the nod, the storyline of the film was changed to reflect his youthful appearance with his character now chasing down his kidnapped niece to save her from domestic terrorists. The original script called for the lead to be chasing his daughter.

Casting for the remainder of the film is still underway. They are working now on casting the lead villain for the film.

The film will begin shooting for 20 days in Vancouver, British Columbia starting 6/11.
