DGUSA iPPV REPLAYS ONLINE, HOW EL GENERICO ENDED UP ON DGUSA's iPPV THIS WEEKEND, INJURIES, LOW KI RETURNING TO NEW JAPAN AND MORE DGUSA NEWS

By Mike Johnson on 2012-04-02 15:02:36
This past weekend was a big one for Dragon Gate USA.  In terms of iPPV success, their $1.98 PPV this past Friday brought the company lots of fresh eyeballs and was easily their biggest in terms of buyrate with over 2,000 buys.  I haven't heard how the Saturday iPPV went but heard great things about the production and about the six man tag and Sabu vs. Sami Callihan match.  The promotion was really happy with how the production went this past weekend.  Both iPPVs are now up for replay buys at this link.

The downside of the weekend were the injuries.  Uhaa Nation blew out of knee on Thursday in Hollywood, FL.  No word yet how long he was out.  CIMA injured his neck at some point on Thursday as well, although even he couldn't pinpoint where it happened in his match against the Scene.    Sami Callihan was knocked loopy on Saturday and may have suffered a concussion Saturday against Sabu.  Callihan, who was coming off a long international tour that saw him in Japan, Germany, England and Mexico, will be taking this weekend off.  Sabu ended up with a massive black eye from the Callihan bout.  Even manager Larry Dallas wound up with a massive shiner and his eye swollen shut over the weekend in an Miami skirmish, which he claimed was from "stealing someone's girlfriend."

To counteract the injuries, a number of talents were added at the last minute with the shows rebooked.  Tommy Dreamer, who was in town for WrestleReunion and to see Edge go into the WWE Hall of Fame, was booked at 5 PM that day to work the iPPV the same evening.  Shelly Martinez (Ariel/Salinas) was also added at the last second.  On Saturday, El Generico, who worked ROH earlier in the day and was coming to the $5 Wrestling comedy show, was booked as a surprise. Generico isn't under a ROH deal, so he was free to wor the iPPV.

The Japanese office was said to have been very happy with the weekend loop.

Low Ki, who killed it with amazing performance this weekend, has been announced for a New Japan return.  I am told this will have no effect on his standing with Dragon Gate USA.

Pac almost missed the Thursday show in Hollywood, FL due to travel issues when his flight was grounded in Heathrow Airport.

The Scene (Caleb Konley and Scott Reed) received high marks for the Japanese office this weekend.  The team is a nice throwback to a Midnight Express style tandem, only with a really sleazy entrance.  The promotion is going to push that aspect of hot, slutty girls in the entrance to show a different dimension.

Next up for the promotion will be the 4/14 EVOLVE 11 iPPV in Toronto, Ontario featuring Sami Callihan vs. Dave Finlay and El Generico vs. Low Ki as part of www.wrestlereunion.com in Toronto.  The complete card will be announced this week.

There are plans to bring Christina Von Eerie back.

Sid Vicious watched Friday's iPPV and praised Sami Callihan's work.
