ROCK VS. CENA: ONCE IN A LIFETIME REPORT

Wrestlemania is this Sunday, but before we get to South Florida, it is time to look behind the scenes at the men behind John Cena and The Rock.

Once in a lifetime a child prodigy exceeds the wildest of expectations. Once in a lifetime, a boyhood fantasy is surpassed by his eventual reality.

The Rock is a revolutionary force. A third generation superstar. A trail blazer of entertainment.

John Cena is a powerhouse of spirit and skill. A leader in both action and deed.

Wrestlemania . . . the grand stage. Two men . . . both fabled in stature. Both still in their prime. This is an event that can only happen once in a lifetime.

Rock vs. Cena

We go to New York in November with the Rock when he talked about starting in the WWE at age 25. He says that since then, it has been a hell of a run. We see Rock all over the world making appearances. It means that he is accomplishing something by making these appearances.

Chris Jericho says that The Rock has always been a vaudevillian show man. Triple H mentions that he can sing, dance, and act.

People talk about how he is willing to try something new despite all of his success. We see people trying to be the Rock.

We see Rock training. Triple H says that the drive is what makes him so successful. Chris Jericho says that he admires anyone who follows his dreams.

We go to Saugus, Massachusetts in March and the Kowloon restaurant and John Cena.

John mentions that he grew up in a small town and he is a kid living a dream. He says that he is living a wonderful life and he says that it is a wonderful ride.

We see a number of John Cena’s appearances. People talk about how passionate John is and they move to some of his appearance at sporting events.

We go to commercial.

We are back and we have a quote from e e cummings that says “It takes courage to grow up and become who you really are.”

We go to John Cena’s house and his mother says that John told him that he was going to be someone special some day. His mom told him that he couldn’t do it alone.

We take a look back at home videos and photos from when John was growing up.

He says that he grew up broke with five brothers. His brothers mention that it was hell and they used to beat each other up. John’s grandmother called them brats, but they are good now. They talk about getting into fights playing whiffle ball. John’s father says that they were always wrestling in the yard.

They talk about the belts that they used to make up.

We see more home videos of John. They talk about John’s education.

John says that when he saw a ring, that was it for him. John’s father says that John has realized how precious his family is.

John talks about the dog tags he wears around his neck and we see what is engraved on it. They talk about how he has not changed and how he is loyal to his friends.

Big Show says that John Cena today is the same kid who was making cardboard belts when he was a kid.

We take a look at the Rock and his co-star from Journey 2 holds up a photo of Dwayne as a child. They talk about how he looked like he was putting on a show.

Rock’s parents talk about the day he was born and how happy they were on that day. Rock says that he was an only child so he was showered with love. He says that his imagination would run wild. He would be every wrestler he saw.

His mother talks about the wrestlers that he would meet in the locker room.

A friend of his growing up mentions that he was called ‘Cool D’. They talk about how popular he was. We see footage of Dwayne break dancing.

He mentions enjoying playing baseball when he was 10 and 11 years old.

His friend talks about how sad he was when they found out that Dwayne would be moving to Hawaii.

He talks about how he was living in a tenement in Hawaii and there was an eviction notice on the door. He says that his mother was crying, but trying to be strong in front of his son. He vowed to make sure it would never happen again. That is when he started training.

His parents say that he was crazy about training. They talk about him signing with The University of Miami.

The drive and focus that we see today was evident when he was growing up.

He says that there are no dreams that are too big for anyone.

We go to commercial.

We are back with a quote from Steve Jobs that says “It’s not a faith in technology. It’s faith in people.”

Rock says that his desire to get involved with Twitter was to motivate and inspire people. Triple H says that ten years ago people wanted to talk about what the Rock did, but now it is about what was trending.

They talk about how this feud was fueled by social media.

Miz says that the Rock is the person you are on the edge of the seat for because you want to hear what he says next.

David Otunga says that the Fruity Pebbles thing is great because of how something so little and minute can transform into something that big.

Rock says that he tries to gauge the crowd and he felt that they were getting tired and then it happened.

Someone from Post talks about the Fruity Pebbles comment.

Triple H says that Rock can set the world on fire with a phrase and John is not far behind. He can turn a phrase into a global advertising campaign.

We see John Cena react to the Fruity Pebbles comment in the back.

We go to the Post Factory with the John Cena Fruity Pebbles box.

Children comment on the John Cena Fruity Pebbles box.

Miz jokes about Rock calling him Cocoa Puffs so he can be on the box too.

Rock says that the best thing about that is that Cena’s fans love that.

Cena thanks the Rock for bringing it up. John’s mom says that it is overwhelming to see her son on the box.

We go to commercial.

We are back with a quote from Kierkegaard that says “Life is lived forwards but understood backwards.”

Rock is sitting at his grandfather’s gravesite. He mentions that his grandfather died when he was ten years old. He says that he was proud of his grandfather and he was a proud Samoan. Rock’s mother talks about his Samoan heritage. We see footage from 2004 when he returned to Samoa.

His mother mentions that Dwayne was made a Chief by the King of Samoa. We see footage of the ceremony. He says that he lives proudly as Seiuli, son of the king.

He talks about how important tattoos are for Polynesians. We see the tattoos that his grandfather had. Rock talks about how his tattoos reflect who he is. He talks about how women are an important focus of his tattoo because they raised him.

Miz says that John cannot help being himself. Jericho says that he is real and there is nothing false about John. Sheamus says that Cena works harder than anyone. Punk talks about how Cena works hurt and exhausted. He calls Cena’s schedule absolutely ridiculous.

We see John signing hundreds of autographs.

David Otunga talks about how he appears at every show and on days off, he is working with the younger talent.

We see John with the people in FCW and Leakee talks about how personable John is.

Jerry Lawler mentions that John will show the same respect to the owner of the company as he would to someone on his first time in the ring.

We see John watching Big E Langston pressing 575 pounds.

Triple H talks about how John is pulled in dozens of directions but when there is a kid around, he stops and goes to the kid and makes the kid feel like they are the only thing there.

We see John Cena meeting with children through Make A Wish.

Jericho says that Cena understands how much it means to the kids and to him. He says that John is a good hearted person.

Jerry Lawler says that John has never said no to a Make A Wish request.

John says that he is donating his time to Make A Wish because it is a good cause. John says that he will do it regardless of whether the cameras are there or not.

We go to commercial.

We are back with a quote from T.S. Eliot that says “Only those who will risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go.”

Rock talks about the transition from WWE to Hollywood and how it was the biggest risk he had taken. He mentions that he had zero experience in Hollywood.

He talks about how the Scorpion King opened eyes about how he can open movies.

Co-stars talk about his presence on the set.

He was brought into G.I. Joe because they needed someone who could be a superhero.

Rock talks about how he finished filming for G.I. Joe on a Friday, he flew to New York and wrestled at Survivor Series on Sunday. Then he started filming on Snitch.

He talks about being in a movie based on a true story and how you want to get involved in the story.

He says that his dreams are kind of lofty so it means something to be a box office power. He says that his goal is to win an Oscar.

He says that everything goes back to the audience and wanting to entertain them. He says that the autographs are the easy part and he enjoys meeting people.

Miz says that when Rock goes into the ring, it is electric and they hang on everything that he says.

Jericho says that nobody has ever worked the crowd like Rock.

He says that he loves moments like the one he is going to experience now on the red carpet in Mexico City. He loves the reaction from the people.

We go to John Cena traveling in Phoenix in January. He says that he will never be Dwayne. John says that he doesn’t mind dealing with the BS from the fans because he loves what he is doing.

We see a quote from Natalie Goldberg that says “If you are not afraid of the voices inside of you, you will not fear the critics outside of you.”

Triple H says that John is the franchise player of the WWE. He became what the people hated. He became the New York Yankees.

John talks about the different reactions he gets from the crowds.

Chris Jericho says that nobody has ever received the polarizing reactions like John Cena. That is why he gets the loudest reactions.

Punk says that nobody is indifferent about John Cena. They either love him or hate him.

Shawn Michaels says that he sees people in John Cena shirts and booing him. Shawn says that it is the fad to boo Cena.

Big Show says that it is funny that the people who are booing John Cena are the ones who will run over their grandmother to see him wrestle.

We go to an appearance in New York for John Cena from March. He talks about how there are people who genuinely hate him but a lot of guys are having fun with them. It is about someone telling the story about how he went to Times Square and met the guy wearing the Cena Sucks shirt (and we see video of one such encounter). Cena says that it is the first time he signed a Cena Sucks shirt.

We go to footage from Raw in Boston from last November and he is in the gorilla position listening to the crowd reaction.

John says that his job is not to make you cheer him. It is to make sure that you are entertained. If that means that you boo him, then he has accomplished his goal.

Triple H says that you are not going to convince the people who hate him. The people who love him will go to bat for him.

Jerry Lawler says that he is committed to the fans.

We go to commercial.

We are back with a quote from William Shakespeare that says “It’s not in the stars to hold our destiny but in ourselves.”

They talk about how it is two icons in the ring and how it is once in a lifetime.

Chris Jericho talks about how Wrestlemania is like no other night and taken a life of its own before it happens.

Sheamus talks about how it is the grandest stage of them all.

Shawn Michaels calls the match epic.

Jerry lawler says that they are the biggest stars.

Big Show says that they desire to be the best and in the spotlight.

Shawn Michaels asks who needs to win this match more.

Miz says that John Cena needs to win this match to validate that he is who he is.

Sheamus says that Rock has to prove to the world that he still has it.

Triple H says that these are two guys who are going to go out and paint a masterpiece.

Chris Jericho says that this will be one of the best matches we will ever see because it is destined to be that way.
