BY THE NUMBERS PAY PER VIEW EDITION: LOOKING BACK AT VICTORY ROAD AND THE START OF YEAR THREE

By Richard Trionfo on 2012-03-25 11:29:05
After debating the situation, I have decided that instead of looking at the next set of pay per views from both companies, I will continue to make the calendar as the source for this column. That means that we will have three pay per views to analyze in April, just like last May and October when we got three pay per view offerings from World Wrestling Entertainment and Impact Wrestling.

This is a bit of a celebratory column because it was March 2010 when I started the first spin off of the By the Numbers Column to analyze pay per views. That month featured Destination X from Impact Wrestling and Wrestlemania 26 from World Wrestling Entertainment.

Looking back at those shows, we had more than two hundred minutes of wrestling from the seven hours of pay per view time. Destination X featured Matt Morgan in a tag title match, Ken Anderson in the semi-main event, and Christopher Daniels and Frankie Kazarian together in a match even though they were participants in a four way match.

Wrestlemania 26 saw Shawn Michaels’ final wrestling match, a tag team match with a lot of people in it, Chris Jericho wrestling for a Heavyweight Title, and Big Show wrestling for a title.

In 2011, with Wrestlemania in April, we only had Victory Road which moved from the summer to its current March spot on the pay per view calendar. It gave us the second lowest amount of wrestling at the time for an Impact Wrestling pay per view(after Hardcore Justice 2010) with only eighty-four minutes of wrestling.

This month’s offering from Impact Wrestling did have a few similarities to the 2011 offering. If you watched the pay per view, there was an accidental similarity because a few of the graphics for the wrestlers had the 2011 Victory Road logo. However, we did see Sting in the main event and we saw a one minute match. Unlike last year, those two things did not take place in the same match. Bully Ray got to be in the opening match again.
