MOOLAH'S TITLE RUN, LEGITIMATE BOUNTIES IN WRESTLING AND MUCH MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2012-03-16 10:00:00
Now that ODB and Eric Young are the new TNA Knockout tag team champions will there be a rematch with the former champions Gail Kim and Madison Rayne? Is this whole situation a joke or what? How long do you see this team of ODB and Eric Young as Knockout tag champions continuing? Do you expect the new Knockouts tag team champions taking on other teams such as Tara and Mickie James, Velvet Sky and Brooke Tessmacher, Sarita and Angelina Love as well as Winter and Rosita? Its not April First is it?

I expect we'll see the belts play a minor role in their romance going forward.  They were hardly defended, so it's not like there was any real importance placed upon them.

It was reported recently that members of the NFL's New Orleans Saints defense issued bounties. Payments paid when certain players such as quarterback Brett Favre would be taken out especially during the playoffs. Has there ever been a case of a wrestler, man or woman, putting out a bounty on another wrestler for the purpose of getting them out of action? Say a wrestler was up for a title shot but another wrestler felt he or she were more entitled to the opportunity so they placed a bounty against their rival hoping they would be so injured during a match that they couldn't take part in the championship bout opening the door for them. Have you ever heard of such a thing?

Actually, there was a famous offer made to Bruiser Brody to go to the first Wrestlemania and attack Mr. T as he entered the ring to try and destroy the show, but Brody didn't take it.  Iron Sheik has claimed for many years that Verne Gagne offered Sheik money to break Hulk Hogan's leg for leaving the AWA for WWF and Sheik turned it down out of respect for Vince McMahon.  The scenarios you are discussing, no but if you think that in the huge spanning history of this business that a promoter didn't pay a tough guy to hurt a wrestler he was pissed at, well, I've got some swampland in Florida that would make a great chicken farm.

I recently attended a wrestling show in my hometown and I noticed one of the fans was wearing a t-shirt with the words I broke Wahoo's leg on the front of it. I recall once seeing a famous picture of wrestler Greg Valentine wearing that same shirt many years ago. Did that actually happen? Did Greg Valentine actually break the leg of former football/wrestling star the late Wahoo McDaniel?

It was an angle in Mid-Atlantic in the 80s.

What do you think of the better late than never push of Tamina?

I think it's over.

How many times did the late legendary female wrestling champion The Fabulous Moolah (Lillian Ellison) lose her womens title? To whom did she lose the title?

While often presented as this long, uniterrupted women's championship reign, like a lot of other things in wrestling, it was all hype to promote Moolah.  She lost the belt on occasion to set up rematches.  To the best of my knowledge and research, here are women she dropped the belt to, although I am sure there are others that have been lost to time due to the record keeping of the era.  Moolah lost the women's championship on these occasions:

1966 - Betty Boucher
1968 - Yukiko Tomoe
1976 - Sue Green
1978 - Evelyn Stevens
1984 - Wendi Richter
1987 - Sherri Martel
1999 - Ivory
