LOTS OF RING OF HONOR NEWS AND NOTES

By Mike Johnson on 2012-03-12 11:11:25
The latest edition of ROH on Sinclair is now online for paid "Ringside Members" at the ROH website.

The Nigel McGuinness documentary hit its goal via Kickstarter. Daniel Bryan helped quite a bit by plugging it on Twitter and promising to follow anyone who donated to the project. He was only following 19 people at that point. Good to see the support for someone who gave so much of his body for the business.

Ring of Honor will return to Internet PPV on Friday 3/30 and Saturday afternoon 3/31 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida at the War Memorial with "Showdown in Sun."

You can order both shows for one price by clicking the poster below:

The updated lineups for the events:

Night One:
*ROH champ Davey Richards vs. Eddie Edwards vs. Roderick Strong.
*El Generico vs. Kevin Steen.
*ROH Tag Team champs The Briscoes vs. TMDK (Mikey Nicholls & Shane Haste)
*Lance Storm vs. Mike Bennett with Maria Kanellis.
*Young Bucks vs. All Night Express - Street Fight.

Day Two:

*ROH Blind Destiny Challenge - Three matches but only one will be for the ROH title, based on the winner of Night One's main event.
*Blind Destiny: Eddie Edwards vs. Kevin Steen.
*Blind Destiny: Roderick Strong vs. ROH TV champ Jay Lethal
*Blind Destiny: Davey Richards vs. Michael Elgin
*ROH Tag Team champions The Briscoes vs. Charlie Haas & Shelton Benjamin.

After the PPV, ROH will film TV on Saturdyay 4/7 in Baltimire, MD at the Du Burns Arena, which has gotten a lot of praise for atmosphere.

I had a chance to watch ROH Homecoming 2012 on DVD this morning.  Davey Richards vs. Jay Lethal was just awesome.  Lethal has just blown the doors off as a worker over the last year, making TNA look completely stupid for releasing him.  The CHIKARA angle with the Briscoes was easily the most heated thing of the show.  The CHIKARA angle can really be beneficial in terms of bringing lapsed fans back to ROH if they play their cards right.

The company is teasing some sort of alliance between The Embassy and The House of Truth.

The storyline is that Jimmy Jacobs hasn't returned calls since losing to Kevin Steen at the Anniversary show.

Speaking of which, I had the chance to watch the show over the weekend via iPPV. Some quick thoughts after watching the show. Kevin Kelly and Nigel McGuinness are just awesome as a commentary duo. Nigel has really improved since beginning his work as an announcer and Kelly was incredibly prepared with notes and facts from the past. At one point, he even praised Gabe Sapolsky for his work in the company. I would have loved a mention of the late Doug Gentry and Trent Acid, but it's probably too much for the current regime to have them on the brain. It's a new era. The actual wrestling was as good as I remembered it live. There's been a lot said about the production and ROH only has so much about a budget, so it is what it is. The one thing I would immediately change if the world ended and someone put me in charge is that the company needs to do a better job of showing how impressive the Hammerstein Ballroom looks in size. The hard camera was set so it shot down at the ring and instead of seeing the balconies, you just saw the ring and the rows of seats beyond it on the floor. That gave the impression of a much smaller room than the Ballroom is. The place looks bigtime when you are there, so they need to find the right way to showcase that to the audience at home. There were some issues with audio levels raising and lowering, which can be easily figured out. It might behoove the company to have someone watching the feed at home and sending in notes so they can adjust accordingly. The direction on the show was OK, but you could see a few times when graphics would pop up while the announcers were discussing history or other subjects. Again, that will take some slight adjusting. Still, for $10, this was a hell of a PPV from the in-ring standpoint and well worth checking out. For more on all things ROH, visit www.rohwrestling.com.
