PRO WRESTLING XPERIENCE IN CHARLOTTE, NC LIVE REPORT: BRISCOES, RODERICK STRONG, RHETT TITUS, CALEB KONLEY AND MORE

By David Houston on 2012-02-26 09:00:00
I attended another fun show held by Highspots' Pro Wrestling Xperience in Charlotte. The crowd at the Naomi Drenan Rec Center was hot most of the night with very few, shortlived lulls. They looked to have more people this month than last (roughly 300) with a lot of young kids and teens, who, even if they didn't know the individual wrestlers, seemed to have a good time.

The show started with a brief video package of the card that was interrupted by the Briscoes, who sought out the mother of one of their opponents, Cedric Alexander, with Jay telling her to go give her boy a kiss because they're going "whoop his ass tonight". Alexander's mother, by the way, was very game and gave as good as she got.

Cedric and his 7-OH!-4 partner (704 is the Charlotte area code) Caleb Konley came out but were kept away from the Briscoed by security and PWX staff. Hot angle to start the show and got the Briscoes over as sh_t-talking heels who people wanted to see get their's in the main event.

The opener was a good match with Adam Page pinning Mike Posey.

Arik Royal won a future PWX title shot by winning a "Lucky Seven" Rumble style battle royal where you were eliminated by pinfall or submission instead of being tossed over the top rope. He got the final pinfall on Zane Riley after Riley's partner, Jimmy Jack Funk Jr, hit with a cowbell. After the match, Riley and Funk made up until Funk clotheslined Riley and they brawled to the back.

In a wild, highspots filled six man match, Corey Hollis, Chip Day, and the Chiva Kid defeated "Mr Elite" Drew Meyers and his partners the Fun Athletic Guys (who, if you couldn't tell from their acronym, do an effete gimmick), Lee and Tyler. Chiva pinned Meyers with an excellent shooting star press.

The Great Outdoorsmen, Grizzly Redwood and "The Man Scout" Jake Manning, defeated Corey Hollis and Joey Janella (accompanied by Amber O'Neal) when Manning pinned Janella.

In the semi main event, Rhett Titus (accompanied by Amber O'Neal) successfully defended the PWX title against Roderick Strong, who was had to overcome outside interference by Hollis, Janella, and O'Neal.

In the main event, Jay and Mark Briscoe defeated Cedric Alexander and Caleb Konley with the Doomsday Device after interference by Rhett Titus.

After the match Konley offered to shake the hands of the Briscoes but where attacked by Hollis, Janella, the Briscoes and Titus. The Great Outdoorsmen made the save with some of the other faces on the card and most of them fought to the back, leaving Titus stomping Alexander and Konley. Strong came out, forcing Titus to back off. When Konley gets to his feet, Strong kicks him in the stomach and gives him a piledriver, in turn doing the same thing to Alexander.

Titus grabbed the rope that had been used earlier by JJ Funk Jr, tied it around Alexander's neck and hung him over the top rope in an old school, Southern heel move that gave me Mid Atlantic flashbacks. The crowd was extremely hot and someone actually threw a chair into the ring at Titus, glancing off his back.

I was surprised to see them end with the faces really taking such a beating and with a heel turn, especially considering PWX won't be running in Charlotte again until June but it was a great night of action and I recommend anyone who can to check out a PWX live show and/or DVD.
