PREVIEWING CHIKARA'S 2/25 A FATE WORSE THAN DEATH SHOW

By Joshua Higham on 2012-02-24 08:07:31
Chikara presents “A Fate Worse Than Death” Saturday, February 25, 2012 at the Goodwill Beneficial Association Hall in Reading, PA. Belltime is 7 pm.

For the Campeonatos de Parejas: 2 out of 3 Falls
The Spectral Envoy (Ultramantis Black and Hallowicked) vs. FIST (Johnny Gargano and Chuck Taylor)

The Spectral Envoy regained the Eye of Tyr from the BDK at the High Noon iPPV with the promise of returning Delirious to his original self. With the stakes in that match so high, it flew under the radar somewhat that Ultramantis Black and Hallowicked earned their right to challenge for the Campeonatos de Parejas. Johnny Gargano and Chuck Taylor make their first appearances in Chikara in 2012 to defend their titles for the fourth time. Gargano, recovering from his back injury, hasn’t wrestled since the aggravation of the injury at the Evolve event in January. That back is surely a huge bullseye for any smart opponent. At the same time, FIST continues to sneak wins and keep the titles with their underhanded tactics.

Archibald Peck vs. Sara Del Rey

Sara Del Rey returns to the Chikara ring after a hugely successful Joshimania weekend, where she defeated Aja Kong, Tsubasa Kuragaki, and Ayako Hamada in consecutive nights. Del Rey actually hasn’t lost since October when she was mathematically eliminated from the 12 Large Summit. Veronica has made it clear that losing is not an option for Archibald Peck any more. Peck, on a losing skid since High Noon, needs that big win. A win over Del Rey, one of the most respected and popular wrestlers in the Chikara locker room, would certainly do the trick.

Colt Cabana vs. Kobald

Kobald continues his series of matches against more experienced wrestlers. The smallest member of the Batiri has faced Eddie Kingston and Jigsaw in recent months, both times coming up short. This time, he is faced with the former NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion, Colt Cabana. Last time we saw Cabana in Chikara, he was able to take Colt Cabunny back from March Madness after defeating Archibald Peck.

Green Ant vs. Ophidian

Two submission masters will face off in Reading. Ophidian, debuting a new look to match his new attitude, has been on a roll since unmasking Amasis at the High Noon iPPV, defeating Greg Iron and Hieracon in the past two months with the Cobra Clutch Death Grip. Green Ant took down his giant nemesis, Tursas, and his mentor, Mike Quackenbush, with the Chikara Special: Green.

The Colony (Fire Ant and Soldier Ant) vs. The Throwbacks (Dasher Hatfield and Mr. Touchdown)

The newest member of The Throwbacks, Mr. Touchdown, makes his Chikara in-ring debut against two tecnico stalwarts. The Colony are back on the board, defeating the Batiri at the season premiere in Easton. Mr. Touchdown and Dasher Hatfield surely want to make a good impression as the new era of The Throwbacks begins while the Colony wants to get to that third point as quickly as possible.

3.0, Gregory Iron, and Eddie Kingston vs. Obariyon, Kodama, Tim Donst, and Jakob Hammermeier

Director of Fun Wink Vavasseur announced this match as another one of his inventive pairings, calling the tecnico quartet a possible Beatles, even though he’s not too fond of Grand Champion Eddie Kingston. The rudos have teamed together before as part of Cibernetico: The Animated Series last fall, which might make them a more cohesive unit. Hammermeier is certainly going to come to the ring with a chip on his shoulder, ready to prove his loss to 3.0 in Easton was a fluke and get back into Tim Donst’s good graces.

Jigsaw vs. Brodie Lee

One of the 12 Large Summit matches that didn’t happen last year will finally happen this weekend. The stakes aren’t as high, and there are no points on the line, but both men want a win. Lee—after his knee injury caused him to forfeit his standing in the tournament—looks to return to his position as a dominant big man in Chikara. Jigsaw returned from Japan as confident as ever and is eager to show he could beat a healthy Big Rig.

Arrive early enough and participate in Billy Kumohara’s “Quiz Present Crisis Battle” before getting into the building.
