VINCE SAYS WRESTLEMANIA IS COMING HOME, MANIA 30, ESPN AND MORE COVER MANIA PRESS CONFERENCE

By Mike Johnson on 2012-02-16 17:40:12
At today's Wrestlemania 29 press conference, Vince McMahon talked of the first Wrestlemania being held at Madison Square Garden, just a short drive away from East Rutherford, NJ and presented Mania 29 as "Wrestlemania coming home" to the media in attendance. The PPV would be the third Wrestlemania held in the Garden State and the fourth Mania held in the NYC area (excluding Wrestlemania 2, which was held in three different locations).

Since so many have asked whether Wrestlemania 29 will prevent Wrestlemania 30 from being held at Madison Square Garden, I was told that WWE isn't even considering 30's location yet and 29 was booked specifically based on the bid that the company received from the State of New Jersey, which has been pushing hard to bring big league events to MetLife Stadium. As the source noted, nothing is official for 30 until they make their plans, so it's too early to assume either way.

ESPN.com covered the Mania 29 announcement at this link.

A lot of the New York City area stations were present at the press conference so at least mentions of the announcement are expected all over the Metropolitan area during newscasts tonight and tomorrow.

The Associated Press has also picked up the announcement, which means it will be in a ton of newspapers across the nation over the next two days.

The same WWE source I spoke with about Mania 30 stated that CM Punk and Daniel Bryan were not at the press conference as they had already been slated for different media duties this week for the company. Sheamus, Mark Henry and The Bellas were brought in to spotlight some of the company's different community affairs programs, including Be a Starr and the Wrestlemania Reading program. The source also noted that the Raw brand had just come off the U.A.E. tour so the talents appearing, except for Cena, were all specifically picked as they hadn't been on the road for that long trip.
