DWAYNE JOHNSON ON TONIGHT SHOW RECAP

By Mike Johnson on 2012-02-07 00:40:00
Dwayne Johnson appeared on The Tonight Show tonight to promote his new film "Mysterious Island" as well as Wrestlemania.

Rock was asked about the Super Bowl and said he was happy The New York Giants won. He noted that his favorite team growing up was the 1986 Giants and that the first book he ever read was Lawrence Taylor's. He said that he has a big love affair with New York City.

Leno noted that Rock played for Miami University and Rock told a story of chasing a mascot into the stands. He said the worst thing that could have happened to him was that it aired on ESPN and his mother saw it, so when he got the phone call from his Mom, he really got it.

Leno asked if Rock gets advice from his mother about his acting career. He said his mother is his biggest fan and calls him from the opening night of his movies to tell him whether the theater by her is full. He told a story about his mother texting him saying she needed to talk to him just as he was about to do a red carpet event overseas for the new movie, so he put everything on hold. When he called her, she wanted to tell him that she had just seen "The Descendents" and that Rock should have played George Clooney's part.

Leno mentioned Rock was getting into the ring and said he loved it because Johnson gets to go back to what made him a star. Rock said that he loves it too.

Leno asked if he'd ever had a wardrobe malfunction. Rock said that he can't wait to go back for Wrestlemania because he loves it and is passionate about it. He then told a story of doing live TV and making the "classic" Rock pose on the ropes, but not knowing that "one of his boulders had BOOM - popped out." The crowd popped and Rock cracked, "Oh, a fan favorite." He then said that's why people call him The Rock.

Leno asked Johnson if he was going to sing and Rock told the story about singing backstage during his promo at Survivor Series. He couldn't remember the lyrics so he had WWE writer Brian Gewirtz, who he described as "a great friend." He said that he knew he had an ace in the hole because the lyric were there if he needed, then he looked and Gewirtz was holding the paper backwards, so he couldn't see them, but it worked out anyway. They showed a picture of Johnson and Gerwitz.

Leno then asked Rock to sing and handed him a Ukelele. Johnson explained that he sings a song in "Journey 2 Mystery Island" and sang some of Louis Armstrong's "What A Wonderful World".

Johnson then sent it to a clip from the movie where he gets "emasculated" by a giant lizard.
