Awesome work as usual, keep it up. I recently wrote an article of The Top 5 Most Shocking Royal Rumble Winners In History, and a lot of fans were commenting about why Chris Benoit wasn't on that list. Is it just me?, or was the writing not on the wall that he was going to win the Royal Rumble. Paul Heyman was part of the creative team, and he seemed to give Benoit a massive push and I think that it was a given that Benoit was going to win the World Heavyweight Title at WrestleMania. Or am I just totally wrong on this one? Thanks guys, props to fellow Canadian Johnathan Murphy.

Up until that point, Vince McMahon had never given any inkling that Benoit would be put in a top spot so it did surprise people.  Then, he did a 180 and booked him that way.  Heyman was indeed a big supporter back then bit it still wasn't easy to get Vince to change his mind on things most of the time.

I got a question. In the royal rumble promo video, when they talk about the weight in the past rumbles they show a guy that is either African American or Samoan with black and white face paint (similar to ultimate warrior), who is he? I dont remember seeing him before!

He was one of the Headhunters, who worked Mexico and Japan most of their careers.

Welp, let's go ahead and get it out of the way: what's the status of each of the "surprise" Rumble competitors as far as full-time wrestling in WWE is concerned?

Jim Duggan is still old.  BG James still works as a producer.  The announcers are still announcers.  Kharma is back.  And Khali is back on the active roster.  Yay.

At one time, they were pushing Alex Riley. Then he must have pissed someone off, and he disappeared. So they bring him back, with no fanfare, and have him squashed by Doodyman Clay. Do you think this means that his is now stuck in the sub-midcard station?

Oh yeah, it definitely means that.  Riley got over more than they thought he would during his program with the Miz.  He may not have been ready for a big push but sometimes you have to roll the dice.  WWE did for a while, then stopped.  Riley then got hurt and when we see him on a non-Superstars broadcast, he gets squashed.  I definitely think it means he is stuck in a rut and WWE has ruined fans' perception of yet another young guy.

Silly idea (and probably one that's been brought up or mentioned before), but after last night's Royal Rumble PPV, I've had it! The Royal Rumble is the second biggest ppv of the year (despite the fact that they say it's Summerslam) and one that's almost always fun and exciting, but last night was just awful. While the WWE knows that we're fed up with the crap they're serving us on a weekly basis, they continue to ignore us. So here's my silly idea: How about we, the "WWE Universe" (blech!), or at least the ones who read your site, pick a week to not watch any WWE programming? Like a pledge. Say for example, the Raw and Smackdown after WrestleMania. Let's say on that week, we all pledge to not watch or even DVR either show to show the WWE how fed up we are. I guess it would basically be our way of protesting. I don't know how much it would accomplish (if anything at all), but I think if enough people get on board, the ratings might take a nice little dip and maybe stir things up a bit. I don't know. Like I said, it's probably a silly idea and I'm still fuming after that abortion last night. What do you guys think? I can definitely say that if we could organize this or something similar that I would gladly be on board. Cause if things don't change sooner than later, then I may just have to move on from being a wrestling fan, and I'm willing to bet that I'm not alone.

The idea only works if you are a Nielsen family.  They are the only ones that matter since they register ratings. So if I don't watch, it doesn't hurt WWE.  But I like your idea of rallying the troops.  WWE could sure use a message sent.  If people were to not buy WrestleMania, for example, THAT would send a message.
