FEDERAL GOVERNMENT POSES AS WWE TO BUST PIRATE WEBSITES

By Mike Johnson on 2012-02-02 15:44:55
Reuters.com reported this afternoon that the Federal Government has arrested Yonjo Quiroa, 28, on one count of criminal infringement of a copyright and is attempting to seize 16 websites that Quiroa ran, streaming copyrighted material owned by a number of entities, including WWE, TNA, UFC as well as number of major sports franchises, including the NBA, NHL and NFL.

A federal agent posed as a WWE employee under the guise of purchasing some of the associated domains from Quiroa. When he responded back looking to set a price for the sale, the government was able to track him down for arrest.

Due to the timing of the Super Bowl this weekend, expect a lot of attention on the arrest as the sites had been streaming pirated football material.
