COMPLETE PREVIEW OF CHIKARA'S SEASON 11 KICKOFF TOMORROW IN EASTON, PA

By Joshua Higham on 2012-01-27 10:56:31

Chikara presents “The Thirteenth Hat” Saturday, January 28, 2012 at the Palmer Center in Easton, PA. Belltime is 7 pm.

On the heels of High Noon, the crowning of a Grand Champion, and Joshimania, Chikara returns to Easton to kick off Season 11. As much as scores were settled at High Noon, a few fresh issues arose. New directions, new debuts, new feuds: Chikara begins again in Easton.

Green Ant vs. Mike Quackenbush

At High Noon, Green Ant stood triumphant over Tursas after making him tap out to the Chikara Special Green. After winning a feud based on hatred, Green Ant wants to refocus his career to proving his skill in the ring. So, he took to the Chikara blog to challenge his trainer, Mike Quackenbush, to a match. Quackenbush and Green Ant have competed one-on-one twice in the past with Quackenbush taking both victories. A win for Green Ant would be a huge feather in his cap. Quackenbush, on the other hand, lost in the main event at High Noon, failing to become the first Grand Champion. Quackenbush has said he too has something to prove.

Gran Akuma vs. Icarus

Akuma was kicked out of FIST at Chikarasaurus Rex: King of Show in the summer of 2010. Betrayed by his longtime partner Icarus, Akuma disappeared from Chikara until two months ago when he returned in Easton at Cibernetico: The Animated Series. Akuma also attempted to go after Icarus after his match at High Noon, but inadvertently hit Greg Iron with a spinning heel kick. Icarus must now stand in the ring opposite the man with whom he held the Campeonatos de Parejas and won the King of Trios and from whom he took the FIST wrist gauntlets to give to Johnny Gargano.

Hallowicked vs. Archibald Peck

Since losing in the semifinals of this past summer’s Young Lions Cup, Archibald Peck has not been as successful as he was in his first few months in Chikara. His majorette, Veronica, is not pleased with Peck’s losing ways. So, his first opponent in 2012 is Hallowicked, a first generation Chikara original. Hallowicked is still embroiled in his feud with Tim Donst over Donst’s claim that he is the greatest YLC champion ever.

Ophidian vs. Hieracon

The last two Osirians will battle it out. Hieracon has been largely absent from Chikara since last spring as Director of Fun Wink Vavasseur sent him on an international tour to further his training. Even before that, his success in Chikara was solely in tag team and trios matches, staying winless in singles competition. Since Amasis’s injury, Ophidian has been largely unsuccessful (and winless) in Chikara action until he sprayed his venom in Amasis’ face at the High Noon iPPV. After taking Amasis’s mask, Ophidian has gone back on the winning path, defeating Gregory Iron at Night 2 of Joshimania.

3.0 vs. Tim Donst and Jakob Hammermeier

3.0 come in with a point after defeating The Bravado Brothers at Cibernetico: The Animated Series. Donst and Hammermeier come to Easton, presumably, as the last members of the BDK. Donst abandoned Ares at High Noon, saving his hair, and seems to have taken Hammermeier under his wing. Hammermeier had a fairly impressive rookie season, even if most of his wins came with some kind of help.

The Colony vs. The Batiri

The Colony gained their third point at High Noon and unsuccessfully challenged FIST for the Campeonatos de Parejas at Night One of Joshimania. The Batiri challenged Quackenbush and Jigsaw for the Campeonatos de Parejas and lost last February. Both teams currently stand pointless, so this match could be the first step for one of these teams.

Jigsaw vs. Kobald

Jigsaw defeated El Generico in the pre-show match at High Noon before embarking in a three week tour of Osaka Pro where he was a semifinalist in the annual Tennozan tournament as the first ever gaijin invited to participate. Returning to Chikara, he is faced with Kobald, one-third of the Batiri. In a recent post on the Chikara blog, Jigsaw primised not to take the relative newcomer Kobald lightly. With Kobald in the ring, that usually means the other members of the Batiri will be nearby.

The debut of Mr. Touchdown

At High Noon, a video aired, hyping the debut of Mr. Touchdown (http://youtu.be/gtDuQ8Y2WaY). He then appeared in the Event Center on January 12 (http://youtu.be/UZEzn-hMVQ4). No opponent has been announced. It will be interesting to see where his allegiances lie, if he has any.

It was also announced in the email newsletter Chikara Grand Champion Eddie Kingston will be in attendance.
