WWE SUPERSHOW IN WINNIPEG, MANITOBA LIVE REPORT: PUNK VS. MIZ CAGE MATCH, BRYAN VS. SHOW, SHEAMUS VS. BARRETT AND MORE

By Wes Kinley on 2012-01-21 01:02:02

Here are the results of the January 20 RAW/Smackdown Supershow at the MTS Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.

Roughly 5-6000 in attendance on a cold night in Winnipeg.

Before I start I must mention the amazing new devices the MTS Centre has at the beer vendors that fill up your beer from the bottom of the cup like magic!!! Unfortunately they leak like an SOB!

Grabowski's big bald head could be seen on the arena floor, but since John Cena wasn't on the card, he was largely subdued.

They have the mini-Titantron and ramp set up for the show. Pretty impressive set.
One of the Bella Twins is our ring announcer for the entire show. Hopefully she keeps her day job!

David Otunga, legal counsel for WWE Vice President of Talent Relations and Interim RAW General Manager John Laurinatis is our guest GM for the night

Match #1- Alex Riley vs. the wrestler formerly known as Skip Sheffield

It sounded like Sheffield's new name is Ryback or something like that. Anyway, Byflex wins with a series of power moves and a nasty spear after bouncing between the ropes a few times

After the match, Otunga comes out and calls Alex Riley a loser. The crowd wants Riley to hit Otunga, but he threatens to call Mr. Laurinatis and get him fired so Riley just walks away. Otunga then clocked him in the back of the head with his coffee cup, and Riley collapsed like he'd been hit with a lead pipe. They sure made Alex Riley look stupid in this match.

Match #2- Beth Phoenix & Natalya vs. Eve & Kelly Kelly.

Decent pop for Canadian diva Natalya, who came out handing out kleenex to the crowd so we could wipe our eyes after she kills the other divas. I thought she was handing out fajitas, and ran to the front of the crowd, only to be very disappointed. Eve and Kelly win after Kelly reversed Beth's implant buster into a small package. Beth and Natalya were stunned by the loss.

Match #3- Jack Swagger vs. R-Truth

Swagger issued an open challenge after his scheduled opponent, Zack Ryder, couldn't wrestle. R-Truth answered the challenge, and pinned Swagger to become the NEW U.S. CHAMPION!!!!

Well, not exactly. David Otunga came out and announced that the match was actually a non-title match.

Match #4- Cody Rhodes vs. Ted Dibiase for the I-C Title

Rhodes successfully defends his title after his swinging neck breaker finisher. After the pin, Dibiase looked like he was in pain and the referee made the "X" signal to the guy at ringside. Dibiase was holding his arm and had to be helped to the back.

Match #5- Wade Barrett vs. Sheamus

Really good back and forth brawl that finally brought the crowd to life. Sheamus wins with the Brogue kick.

At this point we appeared to be headed for an intermission when all the arena lights went out, and standing at the ramp was former Winnipegger Y2J Chris Jericho, dressed in his awesome lighted jacket. Crowd went nuts for Jericho who came to the ring and did his usual posing for the crowd for 5 minutes. Jericho finally grabbed the mic and it seemed like he was finally going to speak when....

David Otunga comes out and says Jericho is not welcome on his show, even if it is his hometown. He demands that Jericho remove his jacket, as it is a safety hazard and may cause epilepsy. After another few minutes of Y2J chants and Jericho looking to the crowd, he removed his jacket. Otunga then demanded that Jericho admit to him that he was right and handed Jericho the mic. Again it looked like Jericho was finally going to speak, but instead he clocked Otunga with the mic, and posed a little while longer

Match #6- Epico & Primo (with Rosa) vs. Kofi Kingston & Mason Ryan for Tag Team Titles

I came back from the bathroom during this match thinking that Evan Bourne sure gained alot of weight since I saw him last! Pretty athletic match-up until Ryan got in the match and he dominated with a series of power moves, that the crowd was really into. E & P win after and distraction from Rosa and a back-cracker on Ryan.

Match #7- Daniel Bryan vs. Big Show for the World Heavyweight Title.

Mark Henry had been advertised for this match as well, but was a no-show. Daniel Bryan played the cowardly heel for this match and spent most of the time running from Show. Big Show almost had the match won after he knocked out Bryan with his knockout punch, but Wade Barrett and Cody Rhodes ran in and attacked Big Show, therefore Show wins by dq.

Match #8- CM Punk vs. The Miz for the WWE Title in a Steel Cage Match

Miz comes down to the ring and finally we get someone on the mic who can talk. Miz says he loves Canada, and Winnipeg and is glad the Jets are back before finally adding "They moved the Atlanta Thrashers to Winnipeg.... AND THEY STILL SUCK!!"

Lots of CM Punk chants as he made his entrance. Very good main event with Miz trying to escape the cage early through the door several times. Lots of back and forth action including a superplex off the top rope until Punk scored a pinfall after  the Go-to-sleep. Unfortunately, no mic action from CM Punk.

Not a great show. Other than Punk VS Miz and Barrett VS Sheamus, pretty lame, in my opinion
