WHY OWEN AND DIBIASE AREN'T CONSIDERED FORMER WWF CHAMPIONS, THE ISSUES FACING TNA, MELINA AND MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2011-12-15 10:00:00
There is a youtube video of Owen Hart beating Bret in a lumberjack match for the WWF title but I don't recall Owen ever being recognized as a WWF champion, do you have an explanation?

The video actually ends before the decision was reversed that night. Owen was never WWF champion.

If Ted DiBiase defended the WWF title, why isn't he considered a former champion?

DiBiase made a handful of appearances on WWF house shows the weekend after he bought the WWF title from Andre the Giant in February 1988, but the storyline was that WWF ruled Andre had vacated the belt and was not able to sell it, so DiBiase was never recognized.

Since Hogan and Bischoff have came to TNA..... AJ wins title, turns heel. Jeff wins title, turns heel. Anderson wins title, turns heel. Angle wins title, turns heel. Roode wins title, turns heel. At the time all of the above were the top face of the brand. Does TNA creative have anything other than predictable turns in their locker? Apart from adding in crowd noise and dramatic music at the end of their heavily produced tv show?

Time will tell. The ratings have increased slowly but one could absolutely make a case that the company has more expenditures on talent and overhead since the Hogan/Bischoff era began without huge gains in a lot of other areas - house shows, licensing etc. I do agree that a lot of the turns have been forced but to me, the bigger issue is rushing through some of the storylines and never really blowing off the feuds. Talents just float from one position to the other in haphazard manner and until that is fixed, very few of them will have a chance to get over in meaningful positions. As I wrote earlier this week, I can't remember a time that Rob Van Dam meant less and to me, that's a jarring, frightening thing as he was one of the most sought after free agents when he signed with TNA.

A Cena heel turn at this point, were he hasn't evolved in 7 years would probably be the biggest turn in wrestling history. Looking at the recent PPV buyrates and crowd interest in cena, surely creating such a buzz is more worth while than selling posters and Cenation sweatbands?

I don't think the Cena turn would be bigger than WCW turning Hulk Hogan. It could be the heel turn is coming but to me, it's a really scary notion. While Cena's performance is often wooden and makes me want to tear my hair out, the reality is that he carries a charisma that few do in 2012, and turning him could totally destroy that. Steve Austin's 2001 heel turn is forgotten for a reason - it was a massive flop that helped kill the company's business that year. WWE can't afford a similar situation with Cena.

When does Melina debut for TNA?

They would have to sign her first and that hasn't happened.
