HOLLYWOOD STAR FOR VINCE MCMAHON THE MOVIE, CRIMSON'S TNA PUSH, WHY STING DOESN'T APPEAR ON WWE DVD DOCUMENTARIES AND MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2011-09-15 10:00:00
I was watching The Rise And Fall Of WCW the other night, and I always wondered why Sting wasn't interviewed for this DVD. It was an awesome DVD, but it would have been much better if one of the pioneers of WCW was on it. What was the reason?, was it because he was working with TNA?, was he asked by WWE and he said no? did he not want to do it? You guys rock!!!!

Contractually, he couldn't appear as he was signed with TNA during the time the DVD was produced..

Hey guys at PW Insider. Long time reader, and a huge fan of the Q & A portion of the website.but I'm curious what TNA is doing with Crimson. It's obvious they are trying a similar angle that was used with Goldberg in the late 90's in WCW and so far so good in regards to following through with the storyline, but don't you think one reason it's not gaining as much steam as the "Goldberg angle" is because the writers have failed to put a number with the streak? I remember the "Goldberg angle" not picking up until Mike "The Professor" Tenay came up with a number so the fans can grasp what kind of unbeaten streak was being talked about and then it took off. Now, I know other people have talked about this flaw in TNA writing but don't you think it's time for TNA creative to have Mike "The Professor" Tenay to do his trustworthy investigating by reviewing previous IMPACT WRESTLING episodes and reading old house show results to come up with the "Crimson Streak Number" that all of the viewers really want to know? As we all know, in the world of sports (entertainment), we all love numbers and statistics. We all brag or bicker about them. We all wonder if the number will grow or end. We all think this might become a new record (beating Goldberg's record) or it doesn't have a chance (depending on the opponent) and does today's wrestling audience even remember Goldberg's streak? Does it matter? Bottom line is this, if TNA wants to do a rehash of the "Goldberg angle" with Crimson then so be it, but at least do it correctly. Sadly this is just a small example of the focus when it comes to writing in this company and I didn't meant for this to turn into a rant, but the lackadaisical approach isn't working with this viewer and I wish so many basic elements such as "including a numeric statistic to a streak in a kayfabe competition" wasn't an overlooked detail in TNA's writing.

You bring up an excellent point, but at the same time, I don't think it's been long enough yet to try and recreate the streak angle. I'd thionk they are pushing Crimson hard because they see something in him, but in the long term, it won't be for him to be seen as a Goldberg clone. How they handle him once his feud with Samoa Joe kicks off will be a good indicator.

I recently tuned into TNA for the first time, since I had some free time on a thursday. I didn't enjoy what I saw. My issue was the same issue I had with WCW. The production values. My main issue is that the cameramen seem to always zoom in on the wrestlers faces. I find they miss a lot of moves and action because of this. It makes it really hard to watch a match because I can't even tell what move is being done. What are your thoughts on this?

I think TNA production has some problems but zooming in on talent isn't one I have an issue with. I am always more concerned by the constant switching to the crowd mid-stream during a match, often during a move. The worst case scenario of this was during Lockdown earlier in the year.

Have you heard any names being tossed around yet for the 2012 WWE Hall of Fame?

There's speculation of The Rock and Randy Savage, but the reality is that they haven't even begun those discussions yet.

With the planned WWE Network coming in 2012, do you expect this to be an all wrestling channel, or do you think they will try and branch into other areas of entertainment?

It will be all WWE-based or acquired programming but it won't be exclusively pro wrestling material.

If you were producing a movie on the life and career of WWE President/owner Vince McMahon, Jr. who would you get to portray him? My choice: Alec Baldwin.

Baldwin is a hell of a choice. Kevin Spacey would be another good fit.
