WHY WRESTLERS CAN'T GO BE FULL FLEDGED HEELS ANYMORE, HANSEN VS. BRUNO, JACK EVANS AND MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2011-07-07 10:00:00
I just watched the video you posted with Punk berating a fan and then TMZ reporting on Punk calling the fan a Homo. I remember watching the Dudleys do much worse in ECW on a daily basis. Why is it now a days heels can't be heels? This is why wrestling is so boring because as soon as a character does something heel like they get in trouble for doing it.

The wrestling fan in my agrees with you 100%, but I also realize that the reality of the situation is that when you are working for a publicly traded company, you can't just go as far as you want on the mic, even in an attempt to get heat and make people want to see you fall as a villain. Had he not used the slur during his rant, I don't think anyone would have cared what CM Punk said. I personally thought it was an awesome rant, but the second he used the word, I knew that in the WWE environment, he was going to get flack for it.

With Jack Evans making his return to TNA, at least for the Destination X PPV, I was curious what your opinion is of him as a wrestler? Obviously hes a incredible but how is he otherwise– ring work, promo skills, etc? Might he ever have a shot in TNA (long term) or WWE?

I actually always enjoyed Evans' work. I used to liken him to Sabu in that he was so unique and different from everyone else, that he stood out. I don't see him leaving AAA to work TNA, but that's just me. I don't think he's an incredible in-ring performer but the aerial work and timing he has, as well as his flexibility, always made me an Evans fan.

If you had a choice of watching one Ron Garvin match over and over which one would you choose?

I think I'd go with Ric Flair at Starrcade '87. Loved that match.

I read where veteran wrestling great Stan Hansen was appearing at the NWA Legends FanFest this year in Atlanta, GA He'll be conducting an Q & A session while there. If given the chance I'd ask him about the story of him breaking the neck of wrestling legend Bruno Sammartino in a match by the use of his imfamous Lariat (clotheline). Was it true or not? Was it or is it considered just an Urban Legend?

It's true, but it wasn't the lariat. Hansen accidentally broke Sammartino's neck with a botch bodyslam. They used the lariat story to sell the injury and eventual grudge match.

From my observations I have determined that Angelina Love seems to have successfully overcome her long period of being a "zombie". She seems more alert. More in control. A total heel. Is the whole zombie angle over? Is it still going on or has it simple faded away? Personally I enjoy Love as a heel. I don't see her and Winter as lovers but as simply partners now. Opinion?

It's over. They explained it away by Love telling Winter she was "with her" and "gets it now", so Winter doesn't need to drug her anymore. A very sound base for any relationship!
