WHY PPVS END BEFORE THEIR THREE HOUR WINDOW, MOOLAH'S CONTROL OF THE WOMEN'S CHAMPIONSHIP, WARRIOR ON HOGAN AND MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2011-06-23 10:00:00
This has always bothered me. Why is it that PPVs almost never go the full 3 hrs? My guide always says 8:00-11:00 but PPVs usually end at 10:30-10:45. A 15min match could steal the show so why not use the time. You would never see Raw end 15 min early. Thanks

It used to be that the PPVs would end 15 minutes early so the satellites could prepare to broadcast the replay of the event. Most shows are times for 2:45 to prevent the shows from running over the satellite time, which gives them 15 minutes to play with if they are running over, without going all the way over and causing the show to end without a finish.

I thought this would be a bigger story? What does EMLL patenting Sin Cara in Mexico mean for WWE?

It means nothing beyond the fact that if WWE wanted to, they could pursue it legally and prove they created the character. It's likely a move to prevent Cara from using the name in Mexico himself post-WWE as EMLL had major heat with him for walking out on the company.

Just finished watching Warrior’s video totally trashing the very being of Terry Bollea’s (sp.) existence and was wondering what you guy’s professional opinion is on it. Do you think that he his way over the line like slanderous? Do you think Hogan is o.k. with it, maybe even in on it to foster future business? What are your professional opinions?

I don't think Warrior made the video to create interest in a future match. He's been very outspoken on the inability of those in the business to live in the "today" as opposed to living off their past accomplishments, as well as their immaturity. I don't see him falling into that pattern. Some of the things could be construed as slanderous should Hogan pursue it and I doubt Hogan would have been OK with Warrior trashing his kids, so my guess is we'll see something legal come out of it. As far as my take on the video, I believe Warrior is a pretty smart, intense and impulsive person. I think he made the video because he believed it was the right thing to do.

I read a report (on another website) of WWE possibly adding a 30 minute RAW pre-show on USA Network. Supposedly it would consist of some fan interactions, superstars and announcers furthering angles and discussing other angles that would be coming up on the show. I was watching Nitro on WWE Classics on Demand and saw that the first couple minutes of Nitro was very similar in that Schiavone, Heenan and whoever the 3rd announcer might be at the time. They would go over a lot of the angles, some mid-card and the upper tier, they would discuss the state of WCW at the time in general. It was surprisingly effective. Do you see such a pre-show show being effective and successful for WWE?

I don't know where you heard such a thing, but there's no truth to it. I see it as diluting the WWE broadcasts by stretching things out, not being a help to the company.

It has been noted of the fact that Ric Flair has been many times world wrestling champion. The same can be said of the late Fabulous Moolah (Lillian Ellison). For many years Womens wrestling champion although she has never lost her title as many times as Flair. She lost her title in Japan but later regained it there. I read where Susan Green defeated her for the title along with Evelyn Stevens. I don't know how many times she has lost the title only to regain it back later. I assume not nearly as many as Flair. Why is that? Any reason for this? Legendary women wrestlers who have faced Moolah have never won the womens title: Vickie Williams, Joyce Grable, Velvet McIntyre among others. Opinion?

Moolah controlled the talent and the championship, so she decided when and whom she would lose it to. She wasn't going to give up that control (and the money that came with it) to anyone.
