WWE DROPPING THE BALL WITH THE NEXUS, THE WRESTLEMANIA REMATCH UNDERTAKER NEVER GOT TO HAVE, JERICHO EVOLVING HIS WWE PERSONA AND MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2011-05-13 09:20:00
Don't you think they dropped the ball on the original Nexus? I was hoping that they would stick around longer than they did. Was there any reason creative decided to end the group & what are your thoughts of The New Nexus in its current form and now the partially dismantled CORRE?

The changes to the Nexus were simply storyline with the idea of creating a second group on Smackdown with Wade Barrett at the helm. Personally, I think WWE has done a really haphazard job with each group and neither mean anywhere as much as personalities in comparison to their early run when they were getting great heel heat and attacking everyone in sight. The second they become "just" other wrestlers in the company, they lost their edge. The new Nexus started to get that back when CM Punk was added to the mix but poor booking (when was the last time Punk won a match against a top guy?) cooled that off. The natural feud between the two factions was ignored as well, making fans toss their hands up as well.

WHY?.......Why just 5 days after winning the World Championship, the WWE takes it off of Christian, is this part of something bigger? I've wanted for him to win the title for so long but he loses it almost immediately what are your thoughts?

Christian is still part of the World title picture on Smackdown. My personal feeling is that by pulling the belt off him so quickly, they cut his legs out from under him and reinforced to the fans that they shouldn't have been pulling for him to win a few days earlier. Orton could have gotten the belt back at any point with the same effect, since fans see him as a top guy but WWE squandered the potential to move Christian up to a much more prominent place within the eyes of the fans - and now we'll never know if he could have pulled it off or not.

I personally don't agree with what Y2J is saying about how he wants to reinvent his character before he returns. I mean I did hate how he was a heel just because I liked him as a face more. I mean would you really have liked to seen guys like The Rock, Austin, or Edge come back as different characters? I think that when we know how the superstar is like we can have a connection with them like we do with The Rock.Thoughts?

I think the most successful characters have been the ones that grew and changed over time, such as Undertaker, Kane or even Hulk Hogan in his WCW run. Jericho realized early on that if you don't evolve, you are going to be a nostalgia act and that only sells tickets for so long in professional wrestling. Of the names you mentioned, Edge, Austin and Rock, all of them changed over time and in the case of the latter two, they aren't playing the same roles or personas they had a decade ago.

Aside from Sting, who (among wrestlers who were active during much of Taker's career, and has never faced taker at the biggest stage in sports entertainment) would you have wanted to see take on Taker at Wrestlemania, at their respective primes?

If we could have had 1987 Hulk Hogan vs. Undertaker in his prime, they would have truly been an epic Wrestlemania level bout. We did get to see that match in 1991, but it was way after Hogan had peaked in the company and well before Taker evolved into the persona and performer that made his legend.

Aside from Michaels, Triple H, and Kane (as the only 3 guys who've faced taker more than once), who else would you love to see take on Taker a second time at Wrestlemania?

The name that really stands out to me is Ric Flair. Of the other names (that are still with us), I don't see myself really hoping for rematches with Jimmy Snuka, Nathan Jones, King Kong Bundy, Kevin Nash, etc.
