WHAT IMPACT ON MTV TRES MEANS FOR LUCHA LIBRE USA

By Mike Johnson on 2011-04-07 20:33:27
This Friday, TNA Impact will debut on MTV Tres. What is interesting about the decision to air the Spanish language version of Impact is that the Lucha Libre USA Masked Warriors series was always designed to be programming that could fed directly to MTV2 and MTV Tres specifically.

While Lucha Libre USA has continued to tape episodes of their series for a promised "second season", sources within MTV have indicated there has been no discussion about the series returning anytime soon. Of late, most of the network's energies have gone into developing the Bellator MMA series of live specials.

LLUSA has not been brought up internally and the belief with the source is that with Bellator providing original material for MTV2 and TNA now providing content for Tres, there may not be any rush to bring LLUSA back.

PWInsider.com has emailed LLUSA representatives to see if they have any updates on a potential return to the network.

LLUSA ran for several episodes last year. The promotion was created after the original plan to re-voice AAA taped in English tested poorly with the network's focus groups. When the series was removed, the network and the promotion stated it was simply the end of their "first season." New tapings began earlier this year monthly in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

The scheduled LLUSA taping on 4/16 in New Mexico was pulled last weekend, with the promotion announcing several dates were rescheduled. A 4/30 taping is still scheduled and currently on sale.
