While Angle stated via Twitter that he had called the police after hitting an icy patch of road and ending up stuck, the AP report features comments from Highway Patrol Capt. Kevin Robson that differed from Angle's account.
Robson noted that they received a call from another car about Angle's car sitting at the median. When authorities arrived on the scene, Angle told them the story about the icy road but later stated that was distracted by a text message he received, causing him to drive into the median. Robson also noted that the road was dry, not icy, at the time of Angle's arrest.
Angle was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated. While he failed a field sobriety test, authorities did not observe him driving the car, so he could not be charged with a DUI.
Angle claimed via Twitter that the entire story was not out yet, asking fans not to believe what they read.
