TNA'S SCHEDULE ON THE ROAD, MR. MCMAHON BEFORE THE SCREWJOB, DIVAS BEING UPSET THAT SNOOKI IS TAKING THEIR WRESTLEMANIA SPOT AND MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2011-03-27 09:00:00
Just ran across the pre-match interview with Vince McMahon and Sgt. Slaughter right before the main event of Survivor Series 1997. The last thing Michael Cole asks Vince McMahon is "Who do you think will win this match?" and after thinking for a few seconds, Vince says "...I don't know" with a sheepish grin. But it didn't look scripted (so maybe that's how good they were) but this was before the "Mr. McMahon" character so my question is, did Vince purposefully stage that moment or was he not expecting the question? I would think 99.9% of the viewers back then (pre Mr. McMahon, pre Attitude, pre screwjob finishes) would have expected nothing less than a typical championship match. There would be no need to allude to anything. What was the point of that question??

It was a scripted segment. Whether Vince purposely had it added to the show because he knew what he was about to pull on Bret Hart, I've never definitively heard or not.

I recently went to a Rock n Roll Wrestling show promoted by Buck Zumhofe. I'd never heard of ol' Rock n Roll before, but he mentioned numerous times about being an AWA superstar in the 80s. I've followed wrestling for a more than 13 years but had never heard of him. What was your take on Buck Zumhofe during his heyday?

Zumhofe was a regular in the AWA. While he was a featured player, I can't remember a time where he was put into a headlining position. He had a great gimmick though. He did enhancement for WWF later on in his career after the AWA went out of business as well.

The last two episodes of Impact! that I have watched have been recorded outside of the impact zone. Obviously they are testing at the moment, but if this became a permanent fixture, and TNA did go on the road, do you see some of the TNA talent leaving? Wasn't the point of TNA having a lighter travel schedule more appealing to guys who wanted to spend more time at home?

No one is going to leave because the company is on the road more - they are already on the road and away from home when TNA tapes in Orlando! TNA's scheduled is as grueling as WWE's, no matter what anyone says. There are time periods where their talent are on the road for 8-12 days sometimes.

I really don't understand the logic of the Diva's match at Wrestlemania, yes, I know there are two guys in this match but this isn't about them and I am already missing the Money in the Bank Match - Morrison and Ziggler are two of the brightest young stars in the WWE are they are playing second fiddle to a Reality Star. Vickie Guerrero is in the corner of Laycool and Ziggler so why isn't Snooki in the corner of Trish and Morrison? Surely it would make more sense to have another Diva who can wrestle in the match than a reality TV star who can't wrestle, someone say like Kelly Kelly, Natalya or even the Diva's Champion Eve. I bet the rest of the Diva's are loving the fact that they won't be getting a Mania payday this year!

They are playing second fiddle to a reality star because that reality star is one of the biggest ratings draws on television right now. Her appearance on Raw brought WWE the most viewers to Raw since Bret Hart returned to the company. The hope is to translate those viewers into PPV buys. Ziggler and Morrison will get some attention out of this. That's the upside. That said, I agree with you completely that if I was a WWE Diva working on the road the entire year and I wasn't getting a PPV payday, I'd be pissed but those same Divas should be just as upset Trish Stratus walked back into the company for a Wrestlemania payday as well, No? Unfortunately in business and in entertainment, you have to roll with the punches. It sucks for those who worked their rear ends off all year (Kelly Kelly), fought to return from injury (Beth Phoenix) or who upped their game (The Bellas). Hopefully WWE acknowledges this, at least privately, to the women slighted.

What's the latest on former WWE Diva Tiffany?

She has divorced herself in all forms from professional wrestling.
