STEVE AUSTIN'S WORK IN THE RING, THE 2-21-11 VIDEO, THE WWE DIVAS DIVISION AND MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2011-02-08 10:00:00
How did we get from a simple, quick video that says 2/22/2011 to Sting coming to the WWE? I don't get the connection. Because they will be in Cali? I think of the face paint, the deathlock, Flair, the energy, the passion he brings, but I have never thought California when I think of Sting. Hasn't Sting repeatedly turned down WWE because he morally doesn't believe in their product? Hasn't he claimed over and over that his religious background prevents him from working with the WWE? Why would anyone jump to Sting as the "surprise"? The first thing I thought of after seeing the video was Undertaker! I don't get why Sting popped up.

The video did not have any of the traditional Undertaker elements, visually or from an audio standpoint. Boots and a leather jacket in the thunder and rain? Sounds like Sting to me, especially when you consider that it seemed shot in a similar tone to some of the old WCW videos used to promote Sting. I don't think it's a huge stretch at all but we'll see how it turns out.

With Kong being brought in, Beth back, Natty getting a good push, LayCool going strong, and Gail getting a little push with the Daniel Bryan story any hope for the Diva division getting a much needed shot in the arm? Have you heard of any interest in the past or present from WWE in Taylor Wilde or Madison Rayne?

Taylor Wilde was under a WWE developmental deal but was cut before she made it to the main roster. I don't believe the company showed any interest in Rayne when she was on the independents before signing with TNA. It certainly seems like the Divas division is starting to build themselves up again, but how far it will go really depends on what WWE's whims are for the division at any moment of time,

Where is Lacey Von Erich? Still wrestling or back doing modeling?

Von Erich received her release from TNA after asking for it and is back in Los Angeles. I haven't heard of her doing much else yet.

Do we know anything about Stone Cold's role on Tough Enough? Is he the new Al Snow or just the host that pops up at elimination time? How do you feel about Steve being a trainer? I was all about the Stone Cold character, but as a wrestler he wasn't the best in the ring. What elements do you think he could bring and where do you think he would lack as a trainer?

Austin is not going to be a trailer, but the host of the show. I think to say Austin "wasn't the best in the ring" really shows a lack of understanding for his in-ring work prior to his broken neck. His work in World Class, WCW, as a member of the Hollywood Blondes, the Dangerous Alliance, etc. was nothing short of exellent. Later, when his injuries caught up to him, his persona and mic skills became more prominent and he was able to work hard, but work within a certain system that allowed him to perform differently. That doesn't make him a poor worker. He was always excellent in the ring.

Whatever happened to that huge dude on NXT Eli Cottenwood? He is lost in FCW hell or what?

Cottonwood is still in WWE developmental.
