BY THE NUMBERS: LOOKING BACK AT A RECORD BREAKING WEEK IN WRESTLING FROM WWE, TNA, AND ROH

By Richard Trionfo on 2011-01-07 23:39:50
It is a new year, but that does not mean that we are not going to look back at the week in wrestling on television. It has been a year since the gauntlet was dropped inside a giant birdcage on Impact to challenge World Wrestling Entertainment. Even though I provided a look back at the year 2010 in wrestling in my Beyond the Numbers column, I will continue with the totals in previous By The Numbers columns.

This week saw the record set two weeks ago broken thanks to WWE Raw and WWE Smackdown which provided half of the wrestling on television this week. There was one hundred eighty minutes of wrestling overall with Ring of Honor joining the two flagship shows from WWE over the thirty minute barrier. WWE Smackdown broke their previous record for most wrestling on a show with a total of forty-six minutes.

Those three shows also saw seven matches go into double digits topped by the two World Title matches and the Number One Contender Match on Raw. This total allowed us to hit the one hundred fifty match barrier for ten minute matches.

Two shows had an average match length over eight minutes (WWE Raw and Ring of Honor) followed closely by WWE Smackdown.

WWE Superstars passed the nine hundred minute barrier in its quest to become the fifth show to break the thousand minute barrier and at the recent pace, it will be achieved in early February

The wrestling times below cover the wrestling that takes place during the show so commercials are not included. All times are rounded to the closest minute (examples: a 4:23 match will be listed as 4 minutes while a 4:32 match will be listed as 5 minutes and anything under a minute is rounded up to a minute). If an episode of Impact has more than a minute of wrestling on Reaction, Impact is considered a three hour show.
