DIXIE CARTER ON TNA TELEVISION, CROWDS GETTING THEMSELVES OVER AT THE WRESTLERS' EXPENSE, DAFFNEY AND MORE

In the mid 1990s, there was a wrestling publication called Nu-Wave Wrestling. It was published every other month and was an excellent magazine. If memory serves, it was not a total work and they wrote detailed biographies (for that time and style of magazine we were accustomed to) and did a nice job bringing focus to ECW. Why did they publish only 6 times a year? How long did they publish? What happened to them?

The magazine only published several times a year because that's all they could budget for. Like a lot of other publications, they died once the Internet took off, decimating a good portion of the print media in the process. Outside of WWE, the only news stand magazines left are Pro Wrestling Illustrated and the Wrestler/Inside Wrestling combination.

I don't know if this is so much a question as an observation. I am finding the crowds at the TNA shows, both TV and PPV to be incredibly annoying. Between the dueling chants on practically every match, the "this is awesome" chants that break out at almost every good moment, it seems almost like they are reading cue cards. I enjoy Tenay and Taz so I can't turn down the volume, and I know there really isn't much that can be done, but am I the only one who thinks that most of the crowd is more interested in their own "tv moment" than letting the action speak for itself? Thanks as usual for your great site.

I think you are absolutely right. In a lot of ways, the audience in the Impact Zone, since they are getting in free, seem to go out of their way to just make noise and do things to entertain themselves. It's something that has driven a number of TNA stars crazy in the past. I don't mind the dueling chants, but the "This is awesome" after a few hiptosses is absolutely ridiculous and backwards. I chalk it up to a big portion of that audience having "grown up smart" and trying to show it, but not realizing that the way they go about it actually disrespects the work ethic of the wrestlers they claim to be supporting to begin with.

I have been most impressed by Dixie Carter and her reaction to being tricked into signing away control of TNA to Eric Bischoff, Hulk Hogan and Company. How surprised are you that she has taken a more active role on Impact! and the pay per views? How is she doing so far in your opinion?

As a performer, Carter has been better than anyone really has any right to expect her to be. I've personally enjoyed her work on camera. I can understand the criticism of Carter placing herself on camera but I'm not really surprised she put herself on camera, especially since sources have indicated to me that she's one of the stronger ratings draws for the company when they get the minute by minute breakdowns.

The next TNA pay per view is Turning Point scheduled for November 7th. Do you see the possibility of a match for the control of TNA between "They" against a team formed by Dixie Cater herself? How long do you think it will be before Dixie Carter "retains" ownership of TNA?

I think it's way too early to see that sort of thing, but that's probably the direction they are going for. My guess is we won't see any sort of major resolution to this until Lockdown.

What is the latest on TNA Knockout Daffney? I haven't seen or heard of her on Impact! for some time. What's the story?

Daffney is still with TNA, although I believe she is being held out of the ring due to post-concussion issues. Hopefully she gets healthy soon and I'd love to see her added to EV2.0 down the line.
