NWA WORLD TITLE, MONDAY NIGHT WAR II, CHERRY AND MORE

By Buck Woodward on 2010-02-11 10:00:00
In the NWA's Heyday how many times a in a year was the World Champion defending his title? How many times a year does the current Champion defend it now?

Back in the peak days, with the traveling NWA World Champion, it wouldn't be a stretch to say the title got defended over 300 times in a year.  Honestly, I can't tell you how many times Blue Demon Jr. defends it now, but I'm think substantially less.

Whatever happened to Cherry?

Cherry, who also wrestled as Kara Slice, went and used the name "Cherry Pie" on the indy scene after being released from WWE, although I haven't seen her name recently.  Personally, I always thought WWE never gave her much of a chance once the run with Deuce & Domino ended, she deserved a chance to try and recreate herself as a different character.

With the Monday Night War, coming back for at least the one night only, who is more likely to succeed from it in the long run, and why?

Obviously, the easy answer is WWE, since they are more "battle tested" than TNA.  However, the ultimate winners will be the fans, since whenever there is competition, we usually see a better product.

I finally saw the TLC PPV.  So, was the IC title match an "eye poke" match, or something? Because I didn't notice Teddy Long coming down to the ring to override the referee's decision on that one.  Or is this yet another special rule that applies only to the Undertaker?

It's called "creative license" and something WWE employs when the purpose suits them.  Like when referees count some wrestlers out while battling on the floor, while others can brawl into the stands for minutes and never be counted out.

I've enjoyed several WWE shows at my local sports arena.  I now note that TNA will be running a show in that same arena.  Does that mean that WWE, will stop booking shows at the venue?

No, it doesn't.  WWE doesn't have "exclusive rights" at many arenas they run, although they do employ a clause that keeps other promotions from running the same building close to the date of their show.  However, now knowing what building you are referring to, I can't tell you if it is a regular stop for WWE or not.
