BOOKING MANIA, PHOENIX-CHYNA, DIBIASE, THE 90 DAY BUYOUT AND MORE

By Dave Scherer on 2010-02-10 10:00:00

Beth Phoenix rips Chyna about the Royal Rumble when talking to wwe.com. Is WWE planning or even going into the direction of a big match between Beth and Chyna possibly at Wrestlemania or any other event?. Is Chyna even interested coming back to WWE either to wrestle or guest host Raw? I would love to see that match.

No, WWE wants zero to do with her and vice versa.  Beth was just being funny.  It popped me.

So I'm watching Raw tonight (2/1/2010) and seeing Edge come back made something occur to me. With his return, this could be the first time in SEVERAL years (I'm thinking all the way back to Mania 17 in 2001) that WWE has had all their "main" guys healthy this close to Mania. Edge, HHH, and Rey Mysterio have all missed a Mania the last several years (in Edge and Rey's case, they've missed two each!). So with all of that said, how do you think Vince will get ALL these stars on the show in a manner they can all be happy with? Keeping in mind that the 80 tag matches on the card approach didn't really work!

First off, remember this.  With four hours of Mania, you can have four main events (one for each hour).  So, that allows good spots for a lot of guys.  To me, having all hands on deck, if it's a problem at all is a good one to have.  They have a lot of good stuff in the queue to book too.  I would love to see as I type this on Super Bowl Sunday:

Edge challenging Sheamus for the WWE Title.  Their face off was really good on 2/1 and it made me want to see that match.  Plus, this saved his feud with Chris Jericho for later.
HHH vs. Shawn Michaels.  Undertaker's hip makes me scratch the match with HBK.  They can set this up at the Chamber.  They would do what they can to tear down the house.
Undertaker vs. Big Show.  You need to get both guys on the show and they could hide Taker's hip with this match.  Taker could get a Mania moment of slamming Show.
Bret Hart/John Cena vs. Vince McMahon/Batista.  I like this because you save the Cena-Batista singles match and they could do some great booking, especially if you have Steve Austin as ref.
Rey Mysterio Jr. vs. CM Punk.  They have said they want to work against each other.
Randy Orton vs. Ted DiBiase.  They could have Ted cost Orton his title chance at the Chamber and finally be a man and stand up to Orton and turn on him.
Plus, you have MITB with Kofi Kingston, Miz, Drew McIntyre, Jericho, Christian, John Morrison, MVP, etc.

That is a card I would want to see.  Buck Woodward and I talked about this on the No Name Show last week if you want to hear more commentary on it.

How well do you think a Chikara TV show would do? It is definitely family friendly, has good in ring workers, colorful characters and fun storylines. I'm not thinking it would be a top rated show, but I think if positioned properly could do respectable numbers. Plus it would be completely different from the other three companies on TV.

I think it could fill a small niche.  If TNA, with all of their top names, does a 1 to a 1.4, I can't see a small group doing much about a 0.3.  But, to some networks, that would be a hit show.

I would like to know where is Ted DiBiase's brother?  He appeared one time to interfere in a match between John Cena and Randy Orton and since then he never appeared. Is he under contract with WWE?

Brett DiBiase is down at FCW, the WWE developmental territory.

I know when a WWE wrestlers contract is up they have the 90 day no compete clause in the contract (correct me if I am wrong on the time frame) but if the WWE releases a wrestler before their contract is up, is the no compete clause still in effect or can they go somewhere else (TNA for example) right away if they wanted to (and assuming someone else wanted them)?

Actually, that isn't the case.  When a WWE wrestler's contract expires, they are free to do whatever they want.  The no-compete doesn't come into play.  The 90 day clause goes in effect when WWE chooses to release a talent due to a clause that is in their standard contract.  It's like a buyout.  When WWE chooses to release them, they agree to pay them for three months.  They are not allowed to go to TNA during that time but the company does let them work for some independent groups.
