TRIPLE H & STEPHANIE RUNNING WWE, JERRY LAWLER, DYNAMITE KID AND MORE

By Buck Woodward on 2010-01-09 10:00:00

In your opinion, how do you see Triple H and Steph running WWE after Vince is no longer around? What would the company be like? And what serious mistakes can you see them making?

That's a tough question to answer.  One thing I do like about the idea of Triple H and Stephanie being in charge is that Triple H is, to borrow a phrase, a "student of the game".  He is a wrestling fan, and loves the business, so I don't see him trying to turn WWE into a soap opera or TV comedy at the expense of the in-ring action.  Triple H will want to see a "wrestling product".  The serious mistake I could see them making would be if Triple H was still active in the ring, and he continued to push himself long after his ability to draw has passed.

What's the story behind TNA's, "Gingerly Placed Knee?"

The story is that at TNA Turning Point in December 2004, Randy Savage teamed with Jeff Hardy and AJ Styles against Jeff Jarrett, Scott Hall and Kevin Nash.  Savage did very little in the match, but did score the pin on Jarrett after slowly lowering himself onto Jarrett.  During the post-PPV audio on PWInsider.com, Mike Johnson joked that it was Savage's new finisher, the "Gingerly Placed Knee".

I was watching a promo that Jerry Lawler did on the June 26, 1993 edition of USWA wrestling. It was setting up a match with him and the late Owen Hart. Lawler gave a fiery, intense kick-ass promo that gave me chills. I've always wondered: Was their any legitimate heat between Lawler and WWF/Bret Hart over the whole "true king of wrestling storyline?" Because Lawler seemed to partially shoot but yet stay professional and tell a story through that awesome promo.

Not at all.  You're just watching a great performer do what he does best.

I have a question about the sharpshooter/scorpion deathlock hold. Who started using this hold first, I recall Terry Taylor using this move in the late 80's Red Rooster WWF run, calling it the "Cock of the Walk" or something like that. I never got a lot of Stings early career on TV, UWF and the last couple of years in Crocket's promotion, so I don't know exactly when he started using it and I don't believe Bret Hart started using it until the early 90's.

New Japan Pro Wrestling's Riki Choshu invented the hold, which was called the Scorpion, in the 1980's.

How long was the Dynamite Kid in the WWF, from start to finish? Was he out of the federation by the time Davey Boy Smith started wrestling singles matches, or did he hang on for a while?

Dynamite Kid wrestled his famous Madison Square Garden match against Tiger Mask in 1982, but he actually didn't start wrestling full-time for the company until 1984.  He actually started out working singles matches, and then the company brought in Davey Boy Smith in 1985.  The British Bulldogs had their WWF run last until Survivor Series 1988, which was Dynamite's last match for the company.  Smith would return two years later for his first WWF singles run.
