TNA AND WWE GOING HEAD TO HEAD, KUDOS TO RANDY ORTON, WHAT HAPPENED TO RAW, PAUL BURCHILL'S FUTURE AND MORE

By Dave Scherer on 2009-11-29 10:00:00

Do you think that Randy Orton just "made" Kofi Kingston tonight? Say will you might about Randy Orton, but he really seams to be helping build a new Superstar!

I am not sure that Kofi has been "made" just yet but I absolutely have to commend Randy Orton on the job he is doing in getting Kofi over.  A lot of guys in a similar situation, such as when Triple H laughed off losing to BOTH members of Legacy or when John Cena squashed Miz like a bug, have done the opposite and got themselves over at the expense of the young guys.  The fact of the matter is that buyrates are sliding backward because of the stagnation at the top of the card.  If the top guys don't start making new stars things will only get worse.  So yes, I agree, you really need to put Orton over for the job he has done in the feud thus far.

Has WWE ever considered setting up a downloadable match web site where they charge five or ten dollars for the WWE fan to download individual matches for burning to DVD? Think of it as iTunes for wrestling fans. The WWE could put the best matches from the last six months of PPVs on the site with the idea the fan could create their own wrestling collection. There might be only one or two good matches on a PPV (Undertaker vs. Michaels from Wrestlemania comes to mind) so a wrestling fan couldn't see spending money for a PPV for one match but if the download price was inexpensive enough. Also by using the internet to stream matches they wouldn't have to rely on cable companies to make the idea a success.

I haven't heard anything about them even considering that and honestly I don't expect to.  They would rather sell people full DVDs than allow them to buy one match from a show.  Also, with all of the other projects that they have going I don't see them allotting time to have people do that kind of thing when they have more lucrative projects to work on.

So Paul Burchill (and Katie Lea) appears to be leaving ECW. What do you think is next for him and what do you personally want them to do with him?

His name has appeared on upcoming Raw booking sheets so I am hoping that he goes to Raw and finally gets a decent push.  I think that the guy is a solid worker and has been used very poorly so far.  Part of the problem is that no one is lobbying for him in creative, even though he definitely has something to offer.  But, he is hardly the first guy that this has happened to in WWE and I doubt he will be the last.

What has happened to RAW? I don't even watch it anymore, and every time I read the results on this site I'm thrilled I didn't watch. Smackdown is so much better right now, how can the flagship show be so horrible, and the B show so good? It's really sad how far RAW has fallen, so why not have Michael Hayes write for RAW for a few weeks?

We get variations of this question all the time.  The simple answer is that Vince McMahon is the main driving force of Raw so what you are seeing is his vision of the business.  Some weeks, usually when he gets word of buyrates dropping, he tries some new things, but it always seems like he goes back to the same old, same old.  Smackdown is so much better than Raw because Vince doesn't have his hands all over it.  I have said this for a while now but it bears repeating, I think the product really needs for Vince to take at least three months off and let someone else, with some different ideas, man the creative helm.

What are your thoughts on TNA Running a PPV in Orlando the same night that the WWE is having a Smackdown/ECW Taping just down the road at The Amway Arena? And, the next night, Impact in Orlando w/ WWE Raw Live in Tampa?

I think TNA has to be smart and run their show where it makes the most sense financially.  That is The Impact Zone.  WWE chose to run the area at the same time, which is their right, but it sure doesn't seem to be very much in the Christmas spirit to me.
