In case I missed something, why does Bruno not want to be inducted into the Hall of Fame? I mean he had a amazing career and deserves to be in it. Is there bad blood between him and Vince? Also, where does he get off saying that neither Hogan, Austin or Rock drew anything? Didn't they sell out many venues during there respective runs?
Bruno Sammartino and Vince McMahon haven't seen eye to eye for decades. Sammartino was very upset over how the business changed in terms of steroids and drugs in the 1980s and became outspoken against it. In retaliation, McMahon attacked Sammartino's credibility and purposely omitted him from the WWF Hall of Fame. Although WWE has tried to create a detente over the years, Sammartino has felt that going back on his word would give McMahon a sense of victory and that he wouldn't accept the honor for a small amount of money when celebrities have been paid far more than some of Sammartino's contemporaries. Sammartino has a deep love and respect for his legacy and for the legacy of his era.
In regard to his comments about Austin and Rock, I believe he is assuming based on the idea that WWE wouldn't run every venue monthly the way they did when he was on top of the WWWF. Times, marketing, promotions, etc. have changed - while the Garden would be the most important show of the month then, a PPV would be the equivalent of now. Sammartino's feelings on Hogan are that while Bruno would draw sellouts monthly, Hogan would come in strong the first time and then the second match of the series, the crowds would drop off.
I don't deny that Bruno has every right to his feelings but when I interviewed him in-depth in the past, I got the feeling that he was basing his opinions on facts from a certain period of time, as opposed to today, since he focuses more on his personal and family life than professional wrestling in 2009 - and I don't blame him.
I was looking at the Internet Movie Database (IMDB) site and noticed that the new Will Forte "MacGruber" movie lists Khali, MVP, Jericho, Big Show, Kane and Mark Henry as appearing on screen. Does Will Forte have some connection with Wrestling? Is WWE pictures involved? It's just odd having so many WWE wrestlers in one film without there being some special situation. Maybe MacGruber will be a Raw guest host? The movie is scheduled to hit the theaters in the Spring.
Will Forte plays the MacGruber character. It's a Saturday Night Live parody of the old McGyver series. WWE simply had a number of talents booked for the film, likely due to their partnership with NBC Unviersal. I can certainly see WWE having the MacGruber character make some sort of cameo to promote the film. WWE Studios are not involved in the making of the film.
W hy would neither Randy Orton nor Legacy leave the ring when his car was getting smashed up? I mean if it was my car, or a car I bought for someone, nothing could keep me in the ring. I guess I have to chalk it up to another reality check for creative.
You aren't supposed to think about such things when watching WWE because it's "entertainment" and you need to suspend your disbelief. Or, perhaps they were so shocked, they didn't know what to do. You decide.
With someone asking about TNA at MSG, what has their PPV audience been for shows outside Orlando? have they ever broke 10,000 tickets sold? I would think if they managed to sell 8,000 or more tickets to any PPV, it'd be worth it to try to run a similar arena like Izod or Prudential in NJ with the right marketing!
The largest crowds for TNA outside of Orlando, FL (where the shows are free) have been PPVs in Atlanta and Lowell, MA, which drew in the 4,000-6,000 range. I don't believe anyone seriously expects TNA to run any venues the level of Madison Square Garden.
In the 1998 Royal Rumble, was the plan always for Mick Foley to appear in all three of his personas or was this done to cover two entrants the then WWF failed to get?
Yes, it was considered a creative way to get the Three Faces of Foley gimmick over.
