DRAGON GATE USA ANNOUNCES DETAILS OF THEIR WRESTLEMANIA 26 EVENTS IN PHOENIX, ARIZONA

By Mike Johnson on 2009-11-05 23:03:04
Dragon Gate USA announced details of their Wrestlemania 26 weekend events in Phoenix, Arizona today.

The promotion will run the Celebrity Theater, a venue WWE ran for their ECW brand in the past that DGUSA is describing as similar to the old Sportatorium in Dallas, Texas.

The Friday event on 3/26 will be the company's first DVD taping while the Saturday evening event on 3/27 will be a DGUSA PPV taping.  The Young Bucks and Davey Richards have already been announced for the events, which will also feature a Dragon Gate six man tag.

"It was a privilege to be able to book shows on Wrestlemania weekend from 2006 to 2008," Gabe Sapolsky wrote on the www.DGUSA.tv website. "The supercard name was used for those shows because I wanted the shows to have that same feeling of the really big events I saw growing up in the 80s. I feel that we accomplished that from 2006 to 2008. It was my way of showing respect to the fans that traveled in from all over the world. Now, I am privileged to get that chance again, with Dragon Gate USA's Wrestlemania weekend, and we're going to make sure it's the best supercards ever presented."

Sapolsky's comments are obviously referring to Ring of Honor's past Wrestlemania weekend events. The announcement of Richards and The Bucks for the DGUSA raised some eyebrows as Ring of Honor will be running the same dates and market as ROH are running Phoenix College's North Gym.

While the Young Bucks are not under ROH contracts, Richards is.  While ROH has not commented on DGUSA running the dates, one would assume the promotion isn't happy about their former booker using regular talents on shows that will oppose what is traditionally one of ROH's biggest weekends of the year.

Both Friday events will go head to head. On Saturday, ROH will run a matinee event while DGUSA will be running Saturday evening.

Tickets for the DGUSA events go on sale Thursday 11/12. ROH's events are already on sale at www.rohwrestling.com.
