WARRIOR, CENA & ORTON, LINDA MCMAHON AND MORE

By Buck Woodward on 2009-10-01 10:00:00

My question is in regard to the ruling in the Ultimate Warrior - WWE case. In the article Mike posted (9/18) it said WWE also agreed to pay $890,000 to Warrior's Ultimate Creations, why did WWE have to pay him in 2000? What's the deal with that suit?

WWE had an agreement with Warrior during his final WWE run regarding which Warrior logos and catchphrases they would use in marketing Warrior, and which ones were only going to be used by Warrior's Ultimate Creations ("Always Believe", for example).  WWE used some of that material, and that is why they paid Warrior.

I am in the middle of watching the new Best of Smackdown DVD and I had a question that I know you might be able to shed some light on. For those who don't know, this set has some complete matches and two of those matches are John Cena vs. Carlito (Carlito's debut) and Randy Orton vs. Hardcore Holly (Orton's debut). Both of these matches are very good and I forgot how good Cena is as a wrestler and Orton's match, though short, was very fast paced. Why don't these guys compete like this anymore? Are they just complacent with there work, cause they don't want to seem to go back or improve at all.

In the case of Cena, I think he has fallen into the trap many wrestlers do of having "formulaic" matches, sticking with the same spots that (for the most part) get a good reaction from the crowd.  Unless Cena is really pushed by an opponent to vary his offense, we see the same things over and over.  Orton has sometimes taken the "slow and deliberate" aspect of his character too far, which is why his work is not as swift as it once was.

Hello, just a quick couple of questions with Linda McMahon stepping down as CEO of WWE so she can run for office, and Vince will be the new CEO does this mean he won't be chairman of the board as well? If not who will take that position Shane or Stephanie? Also with more responsibilities in the office will Vince relax his stranglehold on the story-lines?

Vince will be both CEO and Chairman, and I don't see him lessening his grip at all on storylines.

With Jim Cornette no longer with TNA will this lead to possibly TNA signing Paul E. Dangerously?

I don't see it happening.  TNA has Vince Russo firmly in control of the creative direction, and have brought back his longtime partner Ed Ferrara.  If Paul Heyman were to come in, I just don't see him wanting to work as part of a booking committee (unless he was head of it).

Now that Linda McMahon has announced her intention to run for Senate in the state of Connecticut will she be using her own money to fund her campaign or will she trying to raise the necessary contributions from other sources? Is it her intention to do this without her husbands help?

I would imagine that Linda will raise campaign contributions, while also using her own funds.  As far as her husband's help, it seems Linda wants to keep her campaign separate from WWE, so I don't see any wrestling fundraisers in her future.
