PWINSIDER Q&A: WWE STUNTS, LINDA'S SENATE RUN, CM PUNK VS. TAKER AND BATISTA & MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2009-09-22 10:00:00
A couple of times that I can remember WWE has done a spot where someone goes through the ring, i.e. Edge/Foley in the HIAC, my question is how do they pull this off? Seen as though obviously these have to be planned for the end of the night, how do they avoid the point in other matches?

WWE will have their crew members prepare for the stunts a segment or two before they take place and the other performers will take care not to accidentally trip the gimmick ahead of time.

You've taken my tough questions for a bit now, here's a softball to hit..... Which video will knock Linda McMahon out of the Senate race first, the world's safest piledriver from Kane or her nut-chopping JR? And would you put the over/under at 'she's done by Xmas' on this, I go with under.

I honestly think she'll go the distance.  McMahons rarely quit and I think she'll make it as far as she can.  Whether she wins or not, I have no idea, but I don't see anything she did as part of WWE as being a factor.  After all, we once elected the star of "Bedtime for Bonzo" to the Presidency!

Do you think WWE will blow Punk's recent development and run of great "wrestling"  based matches by having him demoted by being dominated by Taker or Batista.  It seems that he kind of needs those decisive wins not "the champ barely escaped/screwjob" finishes.

I really don't think so.  CM Punk is the closest the company has come to developing a new star in some time, especially a new heel, so I really don't see them throwing that away.  While he'll obviously lose matches to babyfaces, I don't see the company completely burying him in the way you are describing unless he completely screws up his push.

I was watching the Macho Man Anthology and there was a tag between Flair & Michaels vs. Hart & Savage.  Jim Ross and Bobby Heenan did commentary.  My questions are:

1.) Since this match obviously took place in mid 92 (before Summerslam when Hart lost the IC title) why would Ross (who didn't debut until WM 93) and Heenan call the match as if it were current when it was, at best, 1 year old?
2.)Where/when was the match actually presented on WWF video/TV as by the time of commentary Flair was back in WCW and both Hart and Savage had lost their titles making the match even more outdated?

The commentary Jim Ross and Bobby Heenan recorded was done for the Coliseum Home Video release "Grudges, Gripes & Grunts"  It was commonplace in the early 1990s to tape matches specifically for home video during Superstars and Wrestling Challenge tapings and then use them at a later date.  This tag match was one of those bouts.  It was actually taped in Worcester, MA on 7/20/92.

What is former WWE star Hardcore Holly doing these days? Is he still wrestling?

Holly is living in Mobile, Alabama and is still wrestling independently.  He's also filmed at least one shoot interview that I am aware of.
