UNDERTAKER AT THE WWE HALL OF FAME, WHY THE WWE RESTAURANT IN NYC FAILED, BOBBY HEENAN UPDATE AND MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2009-09-15 10:00:00

I know that guys like the Undertaker and Kane are not usually seen at WWE public events because they need to protect the aura of their characters. Have any of you guys ever heard of and rumblings and grumbling from either of those guys about that whole scene? Are they annoyed that they can't throw a suit jacket on and go to the Hall of Fame ceremony? Is Kane pissed that he has to keep shaving his eyebrows off? Great Site - Thanks!

Kane has actually attended the WWE Hall of Fame ceremony just about every year except last year, where I believe he was booked to sign at the WWE AXXESS session that was taking place the same time as the inductions.  I am told that it's Undertaker's choice not to sit among the crowd as he feels it would hurt the aura of his role in the company.  He's always in attendance at the event, but is backstage.  In regard to Kane shaving his eyebrows, it's part of a role that's made him quite well off.  I doubt he cares.

In your opinion how is WWE Diva Katie Lea Burchill being treated? She has tremendous talent. She's tough. Beautiful. An outstanding wrestler. She is also from England. Why hasn't she been given more a push? She deserves a chance. What do you think?

I am a fan of Burchill but given the lack of women on the ECW brand, I think she's doing fine.  Should she ever get moved to a larger brand, I'm sure she will be more in the mix, but when you are on television every week and there aren't many spots to come by, you have to just make due.

Any updates on the health status of Bobby Heenan?

I am told he's still slowly recovering.  He'll never be the "Brain" of old (and after all he's been through, for anyone to expect him to be is unjust), but he is working at making as full a recovery as he can and is said to be in good spirits and loving the chance to be a grandfather.  Heenan is actually advertised for his first public appearance since attending the WWE Hall of Fame and Wrestlemania earlier this year at the Ultimate Collectibles and Autograph Show right outside of Philadelphia in October, which I certainly hope is a sign his health is doing well.

Why do you think the WWE restaurant in NY failed? I would have thought it would have been a natural fit and would have had enough fan support/interest to make it last.

Living in New York City and working in Manhattan at the time, I passed the restaurant a number of times over its lifespan.  There were a number of reasons.  One, it had no identity outside of being a wrestling-themed restaurant and even at the height of the Attitude era, that left you a very small scope of patrons who would go there just for that reason.  Second, for a wrestling restaurant, it was pretty sad-sack in that it held relatively few pieces of memorabilia.  Third, economics. Unless WWE was hosting a special event (i.e. Tough Enough finale) or a PPV viewing there, the place never had a lot of foot traffic. There were dozens of times I'd walk past and see no one in the store. As time wore on, they cut back on staff and the management was a mess for a number of events that took place there.  The first time I walked in there, I said to a friend, "This won't last long" and unfortunately for WWE, I was right, although one would think they had a decent tax write-off on the losses.

On a recent Superstars one of the matches featured was a women's match between one of the Bella Twins against Katie Lea Burchill. Both Bella Twins appeared. You can see this coming. The referee as usual clueless. The Bellas again changed places and the result the Bella Twins defeating Katie Lea Burchill. I seem to recall Miss Burchill facing them both a few other times. Same result. Why doesn't the referee send the other back? It seems unfair somehow. What do you think?

Well, if they threw one of them out, it sure would ruin the Bella gimmick!
