4/25 MICRO WRESTLING FEDERATION IN PIGEON FORGE, TN LIVE REPORT

By Mike Johnson on 2024-04-25 21:15:00

When in Pigeon Forge, one of the carniest towns on Planet Earth, you do the gimmicks - and tonight, that included Micro Wrestling Federation.

One of the busiest promotions in The United States, MWF often falls under the radar because they are shows comprised of micro talents, but there are nights they run multiple tours in different parts of the States at the same time, making them the only promotion beyond WWE to currently do so.  In recent years, the promotion has opened a home arena in Pigeon Forge, The Microtorium.  Next to actor Ben Jones' Dukes of Hazard Museum and across the TN Bible Museum, MWF runs four shows a week from 5-7 PM.

The reality series Big Little Brawlers in Discovery was centered around the promotion and the shows in TN.  MWF is very much a theater troupe onto itself.  The talents were all doing double-duty, wrestling as well as handling the lights, the sounds, the tickets, the concession stands, etc.

Tonight, there were a little over 75 fans in attendance tonight, with front row priced at $70 and everything else priced at $35, the group packed together as much as they could in a two hour span to make the audience happy.  The show opened with the roster being introduced one at a time and coming to the ring via an elevated ramp to their theme music until everyone was in the ring and sort of scuffled with each other.

After that, the host for the evening Little Ozzy entered the ring and sang karaoke for several Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath songs, including Crazy Train, Mama I'm Coming Home and War Pigs.  Ozzy not only nailed the songs, but he worked super hard to get the fans standing up, singing and clapping.  After those songs, he would work as the ring announcer for the show, as well as doing live commentary over the house mic, running the music and also bringing the mic to talents so they could cut promos live on the mic.  When the crowd didn't give a big response for something, he's razz them a bit too.  In a lot of ways, he was the MVP of the night.

The presentation of the show was certainly unique to itself.  Beyond the live commentary and Ozzy riling up the crowd to scream and chant and get behind the performers, each match opened with promo work from each talent before playing music during the bout, stopping it when talents took big bumps to let the noise from the bump resonate live.  It was certainly different but worked as a way to get the audience to react to the bumps as well as the personalities of the performers.  The show was very much paced as a story that opened and closed the same night.

The guest referee for the evening was Micro wrestler, Superfly Kneehigh, who came out dressed like a 70s pimp before returning to the back and returning, having changed into a more traditional referee's outfit.

The first bout saw Pinky Shortcake pin Little Chola with a rollup after kicking out of a Vader Bomb off the ropes.    Pinky was pushed as the sexy, original Micro Diva while Chola played heel.  They pushed on the mic that Pinky was not only a full-time wrestler but a full-time Mom.  The match featured some mic work early, including Chola cutting a promo in Spanish before translating to English.    They worked hard.

Syko pinned Nate The Gnome.  Syko and Pinky are engaged and her a big part of the Discovery series.  He cut a pretty entertaining promo about having escaped from Bellvue Mental Hospital earlier today and came here to win the Micro Championship and joked about how to him, all the "regular" sized fans all looked the same - like smelly butts.  Athletically, as an in-ring performer, he was the best of those competing and had nice timing and bumps.  Nate tossed him around the ring several times to big pops.  Nate had some good facial reactions.  There was some plunder here, right in front of the referee no less, including a plunger and a plastic sign being used as weapons.  Nate nearly scored the pin with a suplex.  Syko scored the pin with a splash off the top rope.

After an intermission, Baby Jesus defeated MWF Champion Micro Tiger by DQ.  Tiger was a masked talent billed as the most successful luchador ever.  I bet Rey Mysterio and El Santo would be shocked to hear that one!  Jesus had some nice athletic ability.  Tiger cut a promo saying "Meow" and had abs that were drawn on his belly by a marker.  At one point, Jesus unmasked Tiger, but he had another identical mask underneath. Tiger did the three amigos.   A small ladder was brought into play and placed on the top rope.  Jesus hit a slingshot, sending Tiger crashing into the ladder, which was laying across the top rope.  Jesus went to the top and nailed a frog splash.  Syko hit the ring and interfered.  Nate the Gnome made the save.

Nate issued a challenge for a tag team match.  Syko and Tiger turned it down but finally agreed after being accused of being chicken.  That always caught Marty McFly too.

Nate the Gnome and Baby Jesus defeated MWF Champion Micro Tiger and Syko.  They battled back and forth.  Syko nailed a nice springboard into a splash.  He was mad at the referee's count but was shoved by Superfly when he protested.  Nate nailed a new Angle Slams.  Jesus nailed a splash off the top on Tiger, pinning the champ and getting the moral victory.

After the show, the entre roster gathered in front of a photo backdrop to take photos and sign for the fans.

Overall, a fun outing.  Everyone worked really hard and everywhere you looked, there were families with members of all ages happy, laughing and enjoying themelves.  Job well done by MWF.

Notes:  The promotion sold lots of different t-shirts annd Hoodies as well as a replica of the Micro Championship title belt, which was priced at $4199...Before the show, they sold raffle tickets with the winner being brought backstage for a photo with the roster....They will be introducing a Micro Divas title...The promotion runs the Pigeon Forge location on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.  For more, visit MicroWrestling.com.
